Little Willie Nehring was born Sept. and died July 22, 1905. Burial was at New Hope cemetery. -- W.H. Bateman Sunny Side Miss Cora Link who has been studying music and art under the instructions of Mrs. Purtle at Anson. Miss Ella Gray of Hearn, Texas after several weeks visit to her cousin Miss Annie King. Thomas Link left for Abilene to begin the study of law. There will be a public road running from Sunnyside north to the Haskell county line. John Jacobs of San Antonio an old pioneer and buffalo hunter well known to most of the old settlers of this section, passed through Stamford Wednesday. He had a carload of polo ponies. Judge J.L. Fisher informed the News that two more stone buildings on the west side of the plaza would be in course of construction. New quarters are being prepared on upper McHarg Ave. for Mortons restaurant. R.C. Williams is doing the work. W.A. Austin of Carney placed his name on the honor roll.. Chas. Derrick and sister Miss Derrick of West, have been visiting. R.C. Williams sends the News to John Leiper of Weatherford. Rev. Dr. Ward of Anson was in Stamford. Uncle Abner Williams was here from Anson. Misses Mary and Callie Smith visited in Avoca. E.E. Kelly of Morgan is in the city. Important Railroad Meeting The Railroad committees of Abilene, Anson, Stamford, Haskell and Munday met in the Stamford Inn to consider a proposition from Major Beardsley of Gibsland, La., to build a road from Abilene through these town to a northern connection, either Seymour, Vernon or Quanah. Gentlemen were: Abilene - W.J. Swenson, Abdon Holt, W.A. Minter, George L. Paxton, A.E. Watson, J.M. Radford and H.O. Wooton; Anson - C.H. Steele, B.S. Davidson, Dr. R.R. Shapard and Lige Davis; Haskell - F.M. Morton, S.L. Robertson, H.G. McConnell, F.G. Alexander, R.E. Sherrell, W.W. Fields, J.L. Jones and W.P. Whitman; Munday - Will Baker, Chas.____; L.M. Buie, N. Leavitt and many. Major Beardsley and Richard Colbert of Gibsland were present. Miss Bond a relative of Major Beardsley accompanied him on his trip, and was at the Inn. Mr. Smith, the manager of the Inn, cleared the dining room after supper for the meeting. Later - Col. Beardlsey turned down the proposition. Misses Rosa and Mary Futrell and Miss Lula Foster called at the News office. Miss Rosa lives in Stamford, Miss Mary and Miss Foster are of the Fairview neighborhood. Mr. J.C. Futrell, father of two of the young ladies was the first subscribers to the News. After an illness of four weeks of typhoid fever, Mr. R.V. Colbert came down town. Mr. Proctor K. Clarke has taken a position on the News as circulation, job and ad solicitor. Rev. John R. Morris, Presiding Elder of the Abilene District, was in Stamford yesterday. Judge B.B. Greenwood and son Pit, and John Knight of the Bateman Grocery company returned Saturday from an extended trip through Haskell, King, Knox and other counties. W.F. George of Malta, Montana has a position with J.E. Raines in his dry goods and clothing store. Messrs. Cogburn and Mancell of Marcy were in town. J.R. Patterson of Coke, Texas is in the city. Richard’s the Barber West side, Swenson Avenue, 5 doors north of Corner Drug Store, Stamford, Texas. Born to Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Martin a fine boy, Thursday evening, July 20, 1905. J.A. Greer, the leader of the Stamford Cornet Band was called to Hico last week on account of the serious illness of his wife and the death of his infant. Local and Personals T.H. Rowland brought in a wagon load of extra fine shinery raised melons yesterday. Stock peas for feed call on Putnam & Jones. N.R. Price of Albany is here erecting J.E. Raines’ residence. Ed Russell of the same place is assisting Mr. Price. Mr. Music of Lott, Texas was in Stamford this week. Five carriage loads of prospectors left here for Brandenburg, Stonewall county, Wednesday morning. J.S. Smith and brother C.M. Smith from Willohole, Johnson county near Cleburne wanting to buy land. Work has been resumed at the Dickerson building on the Plaza. Contractor Cohen put a force of men cleaning out the cave-in on Tuesday. Mrs. D.O. McRimmon has been sick several days with typhoid. In making an excavation at U.C.V. reunion grounds a few days ago a human skeleton was found. Many of the bones were in a good state of preservation. It is supposed to be the bones of an Indian. Stamford Mercantile Co. G.W. Hamlett, Manager, Stamford, Texas Mr. and Mrs. F.F. Wyatt are conducting a revival at the Cumberland Presbyterian church. J.B. Gregory of Temple and of the firm of J.B. Gregory & Co was in the office. Separated Cream Pure cream from U.S. Separator delivered in any place in the city at 25 cents per quart. Creamery butter 25 cents per pound. Chas. R. Woodson Monday morning and raining and has been training nearly all the past night. The heaviest rain we have had this year fell last Saturday evening. The excavation for the basement of the Dickenson building caved in Saturday night and it will require considerable time and expense to remove the dirt before work can begin on the wall. J.J. Nettles of Spring Creek neighborhood reported an abundance of rain. Mrs. Ninnie Pickles of Bosque county is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Nettles. Mrs. Pickles is Mrs. Nettles sister.
