Press Committee: LaFaon Anson is building a $10,000 school house. It is of brick and will be the best school house in this country. The little four-year-old daughter of Chas. Legion was run over and almost instantly killed by a hack driver in Snyder after the 4th of July celebration. The large new brick jail at Anson stand over against the large new brick school house. The City Council of Stamford, Texas will meet on August 1st, 1905, for the purpose of canvassing sealed bids for the use and management of Stamford Opera House. Opera House paid the city for the year ending July 1st, 1905, $700.00 C.K. Bell, ex-attorney general, will speak at the Confederate Reunion Rike Camp, August 9, 10, and 11th. A.J. Hill, wife and granddaughter, Miss Ivor Hightower, of Merkel, and J.W. Hill of McCaulley came in yesterday on a visit to G.M. and Burnie Hill and their families. Mr. Hill of Merkel is the boys’ father and J.W. Hill of McCaulley, their brother. Last Saturday evening at McCanney Bush Pribbles was dangerously cut with a knife. One wound was near the heart and one under the left shoulder blade and the other on the left arm. S.L. Crawder was arrest charged with the cutting. Both are young men. Mr. A.S. Zachary, a prominent lawyer of Pittsburg, Texas died suddenly at the home of W.J. Brewington, in Stamford, yesterday about 1 o’clock. Mr. Zachary was in Stamford with his son, Bertram, looking for a location, and had decided to move his family here. He had been complaining for several days, but was not considered seriously ill. He was down town till 12 o’clock and after dinner walked into his room and dropped dead. The embalmer at Abilene was telegraphed for and the body was shipped to Pittsburg for burial. The W.O.W. lodge of Stamford at the solicitation of his home lodge, attended to the undertaking and embalming of the body. [didn’t put in FAG – no cemetery found] The infant child of Mr. and Mrs. M.E. Manning, Maurice Edmond, died Tuesday evening and was buried at Stamford cemetery Wednesday evening. He was 8 months of age. - FaG I have opened up a plumbing shop with Sammons and Shipp. -- J.W. George Mr. P.P. Berthelot had a surgical operation performed on one of his ears last week. A.B. Burns who lives on the Anson road placed his name on the honor roll. From Liberty Grandma Tunnell died on the first day of the month, and was buried at Spring Creek last Sunday. She was 86 years old. Mrs. T.J. Cannon has been sick. Miss Alpha Williams from Comanche, Texas has been visiting relatives. Brother Lee Culwell of Avoca will preach at the school house. Sunny Side Miss Cora Link left for Anson last Sunday. Mrs. Reeves and daughter, Miss Fannie Lee of Stamford visited friends at Sunny Side. Miss Celia Robertson is on the sick list. Messrs. Turner and Busby passed through this neighborhood last Thursday with their thrashing machine for Haskell county. They thrashed Hood Reeves’ wheat Tuesday evening, the only crop in the community. The people of Sunnyside gave William James a days working in his crop last Monday. Mr. James has been in bad health the most of the year, and Mrs. James has been seriously ill for the past few weeks. Plainview Ollie Kinnison has gone to Eastland county, where he will teach summer school. Oscar Miller and Miss Nettie Pamphlin were married at the home of the brides parents, June 25. Born - to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jones, June 27th, a girl, weight 10 lbs. Also to Mr. and Mrs. Will Kinnison a girl July 1st. Grandma Holmes is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Clark of Stamford. Earl Morgan attended at Sayles. Charley Page and Coleman Mayo of Abbott spent weekend with scribe. Tom Coleman and family were visiting Mrs. Morgan Sunday. Rev. Pilley will preach at Plainview. Gilbert Randel of Flat Top was in the community. Mr. and Mrs. Flowers of Rayner were visiting their daughter, Mrs. Frizell, Saturday and Sunday. Mr. Finch of Leavitt is chopping cotton for Mr. Horn. Mrs. Gross lost seven fine O.I.C. hogs. Anson All Sorts Miss Ada Parchman died very suddenly this morning at 8 o’clock, of heart failure. Miss Parchman was an exceptionally refined and cultured young lady and had completely won the love and esteem of all who knew her, having been in the employ of the Geo. H. Baker Co., as milliner for the last year or more. The remains will be embalmed and taken to Abilene this evening and shipped to Red Oak, Ellis County, for interment. The case of Winters vs. Terrell, suit for malpractice, and $10,000 in damages was dismissed on plea of jurisdiction. Judge Muse of Dallas represented Dr. Terrel of that city as defendant. the State of Texas vs. Andy Matlock and Frank Wear, charged with horse theft, several cases, all set for Monday, July 10th. The state of Texas vs. Walter Hickey, charged with murder of Tom Dixon in Haskell county, set for Monday, July 17th. The State of Texas vs. N.F. Lunday, charged with the murder of A.H. Anderson, on trial, six jurors selected to date. 9 deaths, 2 males, 7 females - in June. 36 births, 21 girls, 15 boys. Marriage licenses issued: H.C. Bush and Miss P.C. Foster; S.E. Tidwell and Sallie Moore; Albert Brown and Miss Lillie Lagrone; W.J. Scott and Miss Dixie Jones. Miss Jessie Steed left for a visit to Alabama. Miss Cora Lindsey of Prairie View was in town. Miss Ollye Roberts, of Funston, were here today. Miss Lura Gaines, of Fairview is visiting Anson. Rust & Pittard are moving their drug store into one of the new buildings on the east side today. A dry goods concern will occupy their stand by the bank. A devastating cyclone swept through Northern Texas, July 5. Nocona, Montague, Jacksboro and Weatherford were the sufferers. there were a score of people injured and killed and a great deal of property destroyed.
