Almond of Conyers, Ga. and J.A. Scott of Covington, Ga. are in Stamford this week. Mr. Almand is an old citizen of Stamford and is here to look after his property. Mrs. Rosa Walden of Audra is visiting her brother, C.E. Sammons and his family. William Park of the neighborhood north of Anson called at the News. Ed. S. Hughes and J.M. Radford from Abilene, Frank P’Pool and Wm Baber from Munday, W.H. Shive and L.G. Hawkins of Vernon, as railroad committee from those places are in Stamford to meet Major Beardsley on the proposition to build. Charlie Penick left Monday to visit at his old home in Kentucky. Grand Stand Fell The grand stand, at the ball ground near the U.C.V. Camp fell during the game between Fort Worth and Stamford Wednesday afternoon and several persons were hurt. Mrs. Wallace Newman seriously, Miss Clara Hamblet cut in the head several inches, Jean Yates, Edgar Spindle and several boys, but none seriously. The whole structure fell and the wonder is that someone was not killed. Sheriff Collins of Haskell was on our streets Tuesday. E.P. Harper of Neinda brought watermelons into our office which ranged in weight from 40 to 75 pounds. S.O. Burleson, snare drummer of the Albany band is here assisting the Stamford band during the reunion. West Side Jewelry Store Second door west of Post office W.C. Lee informs the News that the new machinery would all be in place, when the Pioneer Mill would resume operations. S.C. Harris sends the News to G.W. Bagwell, Campbell, Texas. R.S. Ragsdale came down from Carney to the reunion. Dr. Jones a former citizen of Stamford is visiting friends. Putnam & Jones have the newest line of candy in town. Editor Thomas of the Anson Reporter was a welcome caller at the News. Walter Samples places his name one year higher on the honor roll. R.T. Kirkpatrick of Granite, Okla., was in Stamford. W.K. smith of Hill county is visiting his son, W.H. Smith in the fairview community. Western Lumber Co. D.R. Walter and Joe Samples in the Spring Creek neighborhood. Prof. Chastain returned last Saturday from Eastland county. Grandpa W.B. Penick moved to Stamford Monday to make his home with his children. We regret to see Grandpa and his good lady leave us. -- Anson Reporter H.B. Smith says while he was in Stamford last week the Swensons brought in 200 German farmers from South Texas to locate them in the Stamford country. -- Taylor County news R.E. McDonald, manager of the Stamford house of Radford Grocery Co., returned from East Texas Monday. John Crump and S.F. Campbell called at the News office. Mr. Campbell is from McCaulley and reports that they had found plenty of water at McCaulley. A well had been drilled 325 feet and an abundance of good water had been found. Z.A. McMillan and T.A. Stamford, Texas Stamford The City Hall is of pressed brick, large and imposing and has an auditorium large enough to accommodate as large an audience as the town will afford for many years to come. Stamford’s Town-cow there is not a cow that runs at large on the square that has not destroyed her value several times over in depredating on country wagons.
