Harris, aged nine months, one week. [5 Oct 1904 – 13 July 1905] Rev. U.C. Howard, of Wills Point, Texas, is conducting the revival meeting in the Cumberland Presbyterian church, this week for the pastor, Dr.J.A. Ward. Mrs. Howard is not a stranger to many Stamford people. S.W. Thomas of Aspermont had an interesting exhibit of Stonewall County products at the reunion. Exhibit consisted of melons, peaches, Indian corn, pop corn, tomatoes, onions, grapes, and milo maize. Homer Blankenship of Stephenville was here last week attending the Reunion representing John Tarleton College. The Ferris wheel at the reunion was a prime favorite with the young folks. The following gentlemen were elected as officers of the Fifth regiment: J.P. McDaniels, Colonel; W.W. Fields, Lieut. Col., A.H. Buie, Major; Thomas Farmer, Adjutant; Aaron Wood, Treasurer; D.S. Cullum, Quartermaster; Ed Kennedy, Officer of the day; Rev. J.A. Biggs, Chaplain; Dr. C.C. Shell, Surgeon; W.T. Browning, Vidette; J.A. Craig, Colorbearer; Miss Vivian Harrison, Sponsor. A vote of thanks to the ladies of Stamford and Haskell for courtesies shown, also to C.E. Binning for assessing in putting in the water to the Camp. Jean Hall is sick. Mrs. C.W. Zug went to Albany. C.S. Fisher of Belton was in Stamford. Mr. N.H. Burns was up from Albany. Wilbur F. Gay is visiting his grandmother, Mrs. Fisher, at Belton. Mrs. Burnie Hill has been sick with slow fever. Harvy Walton, manager of Mistrot Bros., store, returned from Vanalstine, Tuesday. He was treated for appendicitis but recovered without an operation. Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Hill of Merkel came in Tuesday. We want to ask if the men of Stamford propose to allow parties locate here to sell beer or any intoxicants in violation of our local option law. Aug. 17, 1905 John A. Wood of Knox City left for St. Louis market. George Baker and Mrs. Walter Chapman of Anson and Will Baker of Munday left for market in St. Louis. Miss Fanny Lyle is in St. Louis in the interest of the millinery department of the baker Bryant store. D.O. Raedy of Haskell called at our office. J.M. Abbott of Seguine, Texas placed his name on our honor roll. Mr. Abbott has recently bought the U.E. Baker place east of town and will make his home in this country. S. Gay and son, Wilber, left for a visit to Dallas, Ft. Worth, Prescott, Ark. Mr. J.T. Hughes left for Cisco, Abilene and vacation. W.L. McDonald went to Anson on business. Miss Alice Patrick of Hico visited in Stamford. D.J. Harrell of Patrick, Texas has been visiting his sister. Anson All Sorts Capt. Rayner is here today from Stamford. F.M. Arnold and constable J.F. Withers of Nugent are here today. Meetings closed near Anson, Rev. Price Billingsley two miles south of Anson and one by Rev. J.H. Edmonds at Funston. Several went from here to the W.O.W. Logrolling at Abilene today. J.H. Bailey and H.J. Grace. Billie Wagoner of Grandview is here visiting. Excursions of ladies: Misses Ella Nixon, Emilynne and ruby Pickens and Inman Francis. Miss Eva Wilson returned from Robinson county last week. Miss Clay Hale returned from Abilene this week accompanied by Miss Isaacs of Rockdale and Dr. King of Abilene. Liberty Frank Buchanan and family from Hutchins, Dallas county are visiting. Adolf Anderson and wife from Haskell county are visiting. W.C. Cannon, T.J. Cannon, W.L. Douglas and Tom Douglas returned. A.C. Tunnell returned last week with his family from Roby. Avoca Miss Nora Matthews left last week for Rising Star. Miss Mollie Cullwell of Weatherford is visiting relatives here. Joe Humphrey is visiting relatives in Avoca. Miss Rubie Murphy was down in Stamford. Frank Terry is having a new dwelling erected in Avoca. Robert Bauldin was in Avoca. L.E. Culwell had an entertainment at their home. Mrs. C. Rose will build a room for her Kindergarten school and will open Sept. 1, 1905. The Nickel Store will open with stock on North Side Square. Contractor Forest Koen is pushing the work rapidly on the buildings now under course of construction on the south and west side of the Plaza. Ladies shoes shined at Jack Dial’s Barber shop. J.A. Greer left Thursday for his home at Hubbard City and will perhaps make arrangements to live in Stamford. R.F. Stewart, manager of the Western Lumber Company, left Saturday morning for Leander, Texas. His family will accompany him back.
