Loggins Sagerton - The first man he met was J.D. Boydston and in answer to how his crop were, he said he had 250 acres of sorghum and it was fine. Mr. Boydston is a successful farmer who lives two miles west of town. Mr. A.H. O’Keefe told us he had 140 acres in cultivation, 12 in corn, 30 in cotton, 25 in oats and 15 in maize. E.L. Grayton who lives in that neighborhood has 40 acres in cotton. A.B. Brown is another gentlemen whom we chance to meet. C.W. Green who lives seven miles from town is engaged in poultry husbandry. Mr. E.H. Green has sold but thinks he will stay in the county. R.E. Green is engaged in the poultry business. F.B. Southerlad, eight miles from town. L.F. Burton about 10 miles out. T.J. Pinnell is 12 miles out. B.F. Young as 105 acres of cotton. W.E. Dobbins, fourteen miles out. Mr. Debbins is the postmaster at Leavitt and is an outstanding gentleman and took the newsman in for the night. Mrs. Dobbins was visiting relatives in Waco. W.C. Lewis is of this neighborhood. M.M. McCully has 120 acres in cultivation. At Sagerton, Mr. Wood, the merchant, was at Stamford, A.P. Withington is a merchant at this place. W.P. Caudie is the land agent of Sagerton. The News man met Dr. J.M. More. Messr. Clark and Allen are the gin men of this place. Walter Smith who lives near was at work at the gin, he has 60 acres in cultivation, 30 in cotton not good, 30 in grain which is good, has 2 acres of seeded ribbon cane as fine as he had ever seen. A.F. Smith has 140 in cultivation. Mrs. Smith has 100 brown Leghorns. T.E. Scharew has 150 in cultivation. L.L. Richie has 160 acres in cultivation. Frank Pilley has 125 in cultivation. M.L. Langhlin has 175 in cultivation. M.F. Aycock has sold his farm. J.E. Carter has 300 acres. G.W. Tanner has a fine farm. J.E. Feeler has 130 in cultivation. J.R. Rock has 65 acres in cultivation. T.E. Jacobs has 60 acres of cotton injured by boll weevils. G.W. Smith has 70 acres in cultivation. J.E. Cloud has 500 acres in cultivation crops not good. Mrs. L.A. Posey, has 100 acres in cultivation. T.E. Warnock, 100 acres in cultivation. W.L. Curd has 70 acres of cotton ruined by worms. W.T. McDaniel, an old friend of the News took the agent as in he always does when he passed that way, and cared for him and his horse Mac will be at work ginning this week. J.F. Pinkerton 800 acres of cotton. W.A. McDougle, 40 in grain. W.A. Brown has a good store and business flourishing. Dr. J.B. Ragan has a good store and business. T.V. Gordon blacksmith shop and business good. S.W. Berton, 120 acres in cotton. J.P. Ashley, 25 in cotton. T.W. Haralron, 50 acres in cotton. T.H. Briden, 30 in cotton. J.H. Shipman, 55 acres in cotton, T.W. Overy, 140 in grain. T.E. Jones, 20 in grain. J.H. Bower, 50 in cotton injured by hot winds. The agent made it to Stamford at noon Wednesday. McCaulley, Texas The Orient Road is completed, to this place and a quantity of railroad material has been unloaded. Two cars of mules were shipped here a few days ago and are at work leveling the road bed. We have prospectors every day and some are locating with us. On the 7th of Sept. there will be a barbecue and town lots will be sold. The little child of Mr. Evans died and was buried at Neinda. Capt. Glasscock, Mr. McLean and Bennett Kerbough went down to Sweetwater to arrange for entertainment on the 7th. Married on the 27th: Mr. John Harrison and Miss Sallie Johnson. McLean, the gin man, is having his plant overhauled for the big run he expects this fall. We have received a phone message from McCaulley saying that the barbecue was called off. Corinth Cullings Miss Emma Burns visited Anson. Mrs. Cash Testaman, was a called her Sunday afternoon (at his regular hitching post.) Mr. Gibson of Albany was the guest of A.B. Burns and family. Miss Net Bromley has returned from a visit to Oklahoma. Miss Georgia Knudson of Comanche, Texas, is visiting her sister, Mrs. J.R. Sledge. Openings at Breckenridge Mr. J. Vinson Wiggins, of Washington City, who paid a short visit to Stamford last week purchased the entire Walker block, south of the public square for $20,000. It consists of a two-story stone hotel, bank building and business houses. Mr. Wiggins does not expect to engage in business himself, but will improve and rent the property. Mr. Wiggins left a handsome photograph of his block for inspection at the Stamford Inn. Mollie Bailey’s show exhibited yesterday and last night and hurried out for Anson today. Miss Kirkpatrick, who was elected as a teacher in Stamford public school tendered her resignation on account of ill health. Miss Mary Rogers was elected to fill the place. Married Wednesday evening, at the residence of G.W. Bennett in Stamford, Prof. R. McDonald and Miss Mollie Bennett. Elder F. S. Groner officiating. The bride and groom left Thursday morning for Harvey, Texas, where they will reside. Patrons of Stamford Steam Laundry After September 1, 1905, we must have cash on delivery. --- B.G. Wallace & Sons Married -- At the bridge on Redmud, Mr. W.A. Smith and Miss Lottie Murry, Sunday evening, August 27, Rev. C.D. West officiating. James Tunnell a former citizen of Spring Creek, but at present of Rising Star, was at the Spring Creek camp meeting. R.H. McFarland of Robert Lee, Texas and Misses Alma and Deelta Aloson, called at the News. A.J. McKay of Holland has been placed on our sub. list. Miss Birt Roberts of Nugent, visited Mrs. T.J. Halsel last week. Bob Carpenter has been seriously sick at the Prospector’s Hotel for some time. J.M. Williford and Dr. J.W. Palmer called at the News office on Saturday. Dr. Palmer is from Dallas and will locate at Abbie and practice medicine. T.H. Roland of Funston called at the News office.
