Mrs. M.T. Gregg died at the Cottage Hotel Monday evening. Mrs. Gregg came here from her home in Ennis, to visit her daughter, Mrs. Walter Lawson in Knox County, but was unable to proceed. She has been at the hotel for some two weeks. The burial was in the Stamford cemetery Tuesday evening. The funeral service of J.L. Blankenbeckler was held at the Methodist church at 10 o’clock, the pastor, J.A. Biggs and presiding elder, J.R. Morris holding the service. There were no services in the other churches Sunday morning on account of the funeral. Rev. J.R. Morris was announced to preach in the Methodist church Sunday night, Rev. Robert McInturff, in the Cumberland church and Elder F.S. Groner in the Baptist church, on account of a storm coming up the services in the Presbyterian and Methodist church were suspended. Mr. J.A. McMurry wishes to thank the people of Stamford for the kindness shown his daughter, Mrs. J.L. Blankenbeckler and her family in this time of great sorrow. B.F. Kitchens has been here two year, J.R. Saunders has been here five years coming from Comanche county, Frank Florence, J.H. Sort has been here seven months, F. Jordan came from Bell county. Wild Horse community where A.J. Lee has been ten years in this country, J.W. Faulkner has been here eight months and came from Walker county. G.A. Draper has been here five years and came from Mississippi, R. Williams has been two years in present location, J.C. Draper has been here seven years and came from Alabama, S.A. Lee has been here four years and came from Robertson county, J.G. Blake has been nine years here and came from Waco, C.H. McIlroy has been here one week, T.A. Greer has been here 15 years and came from Limestone county. J.F. Speck has been here three years and came from Kentucky. We are now in the Marcy country. J.W. Holt has been here three years and came from Kentucky. J.M. Speck has been here eight years and is from Kentucky. J.R. Snodgrass has been here five years, came from Ellis county. G.C. Hammonds has been here one year and came from Fisher county. B.N. Lee has been here four years and came from Travis county. A.B. Maxwell has been here four years. C.M. Chapman has a store at Marcy. Ed Gardner has a store, he kindly took the agent to dinner. L.F. Burdine has been three years in present location. J.P. Sparks has a store. S.R. McCrary has been here eight years from Robertson county. J.H. Cooper has been here one year from Bell county. J.F. Buttler has been here six years from Dallas county. R.E. Edge has been here twenty years and came from Young county. Dr. R.M. Greenwade has a good practice. H.F. Wood, blacksmith. I.P. Dunn has been three years and came from Hill county. Jim Speck has been four years in the country and came from Tarrant county. J.M. Blakeley has been two years and is from Fisher county. G.W. Bardee has a gin and will begin ginning by the first of Oct. The Farmer’s Union built the gin. S.J. Tucker has been here 16 years and came from Collins county. W.H. Bradley has been here six years and came from Lamar county. W.Y. Cannon has been here five years and came from Coryell county. J.A. Davis has been here fourteen years and came from Hill county. J.H. McGraw has been here four year and came from Louisiana. This is at Rule: It is said that one of the stores at Pinkerton will move to Rule. S. Wilkins has been four years in the county and came from Falls county. J.C. Crofford has been here six years and came from Brown county. W.R. Carothers has been seventeen years and came from Coryell county. W.L. Tarbet has been here five years and came from Missouri. N.W. Hickman has been four years from Taylor county. J.M. Hickman has been four years in present location. J.L. Dunlap has been here eight months and came from Cottle county. A.C. Denson has been here 18 years and came from Llano county. J.M. Mullis has been here four years and is from Comanche county. W.L. Mathis has been thirteen years and from Coryell county. L.F. Burton has been here eight months. J.R. Jeter been her 16 years and came from McLennan county. The agent now reached Stamford. The News man wishes to express his appreciation to the people for their uniform kindness. The country is filled up with the grandest people in the world there are a few exceptions, but they are very few. The agent is going to tell some of these days what the good women have to say and when he does you may look out for a long piece. Mr. N. Link called and placed his son Thomas on the News honor roll. Thomas is in Abilene studying law. Mr. E.A. Wilson, the ginner at Abbie called. C. Borden of Sagerton called at the News office. Abbie News Mr. Wilson has one of the best gin plants in the country. Mr. Eakins made a business trip to Anson. Mr. Ed Wilson leaves for Anson to attend school. J.M. Williford has had men at work on his residence and grubbing out a place for an orchard. Misses Flora Eakins, Wardie McClaren, Cornelia Whitaker and Mr. Walden Middleton went to Anson today to enter the Anson High School. C.H. Hughey and family are visiting in Merkel. Dr. Palmer reports a fine new eight pound girl born to Mr. and Mrs. L.M. Rankin. Revs. Reeves and Edmonds began a series of meetings at the Baptist church. The Abbie gin ginned its first bale on Thursday. J.W. Pike is ill. Mr. Wilson’s residence is receiving finishing touches. The new business houses are progressing nicely. The house on the South side is up to the first floor, and the walls are going up rapidly. The west side will be solidly built in rock and brick. Mr. C.L. Mistrot came from Comanche Monday, and this week sold the lot east of his store to Buie and Sparks, consideration $1,700. Thurman of the Dee community came in this week and placed the name of Mrs. S.J. Nicks on the News honor roll. Elsie Malone came over from Anson Wednesday. Mrs. Malone remained with her mother, Mrs. T.A. White who is sick. J.C. Randel and R.H. Stovall have opened a law office, land and loan agency at Anson. J.C. Randel and wife of Anson, called at the News office on Thursday. They are on their way to Haskell. Mr. Randel graduated last spring from the law school of the State University. We met Henry Lieb in town and was placed on the honor roll.. Mr. Lieb brought cotton to town, and his son came with him. John L. Blankenbeckler died at his home in Stamford last Saturday after a lingering illness with that dread disease consumption. Mr. Blankenbeckler c ame to Stamford at the beginning of the town and has lived here continuously. He was well known by the people of the town and country, and was regarded by all as a man of high honor and integrity. He was Chairman of the Republican Senatorial committee and at the last election, Presidential elector for the state. For the last several years he has had a position with Penick-Hughes company and was held in the highest esteem by his employers. A few weeks since he joined the Methodist Episcopal church, south, and was baptized at his home in the presence of friends who had met to witness the rite. Sunday morning, 10 o’clock the K. of P. Lodge of Stamford, No. 197 of which the deceased was a member, met at the residence and marched with body to the Methodist church where the pastor read the burial service, assisted by the presiding elder, Rev. J.R. Morris, and delivered an appropriate address on the life and work of the deceased. The burial was in the Stamford cemetery by the K. of P. lodge using their beautiful and impressive ritual. Mr. Blankenbeckler left a wife and two sons, who have the sincere sympathy of the whole town. Pioneer Mills and Elevator Mills at Albany and Stamford, Texas Corinth Cullings Mr. Watts and family of Grayson county have moved to Dee. Walter Watts, has returned from a prospecting trip in Scurry county. Mr. Carter has purchased for his daughters, Misses Lizzie and Myrtlea very beautiful and artistic organ. Messrs. Yewell and Febus, of Grayson county are guests of Mr. Williams and family. Mrs. Terrell and Miss Bertie have returned. Mr. Milsap of the Fairview community was calling here Sunday. Miss Anna Burns, entertained quite a number of young people. Miss Zubye Turner made a brief visit to Anson. The singing at Mr. Adams’ Sunday. Mr. Edmonston is on the sick list. Miss Orah Ussery visited near Stamford a couple of days. Lester Turner returned from Paint Creek Sunday. There was a surprise party at Mr. Jack Watts. Miss Virgie Glenn attended the protracted meeting at Fairview last week. Haskell Mr. S.L. Robertson has gone to market. Judge A.H. Kirtley of Abilene had business in our city. Miss Elsie McConnell returned Monday from Crockett where she had been to spend the summer with relatives. Dr. J.E. Lindsey of Abilene was shaking hands with old friends in Haskell. Judge H.R. Jones came in home Monday from Court at Roby. Mrs. I.D. Isbell is visiting relative in Munday this week. Mr. and Mrs. J.C. McWherter have gone to Brownwood on a visit. Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Sherrell have gone to Graham on a visit to old friends. Mrs. A. Welch died at her residence in Stamford, Thursday morning 2 o’clock. Mrs. Welch had been sick for some time with typhoid fever, but few people knew that she was so seriously ill. Mrs. Medzsker, her sister from Abilene was with her for some time. She leaves four children, one boy and three girls to mourn her. Mrs. Welch was a good woman. She has kept a boarding house in Stamford since the beginning of the town and at Anson for years before, and was highly esteemed by all who stopped with her. She worked hard for the accumulation of something for herself and children, and her ambition was to give her children the best advantages in schooling and in other ways. She will be missed in Stamford. Though a quiet and an unassuming woman she so well filled her place that now that she is gone it will be hard to find another to take it. Her memory is that of one who labored faithfully and uncomplainingly for an honest support in a world not friendly to the weak and defenseless, and more persuasive than words, the faith in the future where the wicked cease from troubling and the weary are at rest. The burial was in Anson cemetery today, the procession leaving here early this morning. [Augusta Welch, died 21 September 1905, Stamford, TX; 42 years, 2 months, 35 days, To the members of the Farmers Union of Jones County Texas: Brethren, the Jones County Farmers’ Union will meet with Garden City Union Oct. 7th, 1905. Twelve miles North West of Anson and sixteen miles Southwest of Stamford. -- J.T. Gay, president, Jones Co. Farmers Union. A card from Rev. Robert McInturff says that he will be at Presbytery on the 4th Sunday and cannot fill his appointment in the Cumberland church that day. Miss Kate Pattillo went down to Hico Tuesday. Anson All-Sorts Jack Lanthrip is building a 16 room Hotel on the block east of the C.P. Church. Mr. Edgar Boaz is getting ready to build an up to date residence in western Anson. Mr. E. Nevils is building a cozy cottage. Rev. M.A. Smith will lecture on Socialism in the Court House tomorrow night. John Bowyer is at home on a vacation, but will leave for Nashville in a few days to take a course in Dentistry. Tom Hudson will leave for Galveston to enter the Medical Institution for a course of lectures. B.F. Bailey left for Caddo Mills Monday night in answer to a telegram calling him to the bedside of his brother who is reported to be at the point of death. Geo. Alexander and Uncle Abb Williams spent Sunday in Stamford. Jim White of Stamford is here visiting his mother who is very low, but reported to be better. Miss Lucy Brocket left this week to enter school in some northern college. The infant of J.M. Woodson, died here last Monday night and was buried in the Anson Cemetery yesterday. Last Thursday evening at four o’clock, Mr. Tom Veitch and Mrs. Mattie E. Blacknell were quietly married at the Blacknell Hotel, and immediately left for Stamford and other points. It was the pleasure of ye scribe to witness a beautiful wedding in the quiet little town of Nugent. Long before the appointed hour the Methodist church was crowded to its capacity with relatives and friends of Mr. John Hollis Roberts and Miss Una Wagoner. Music was rendered by Zada Jones. Rev. Findley of Nugent met the party at the altar. The retinue of attendances were bride’s maids, Miss Monnie Wagoner, sister of the bride, Miss Ollye C. Roberts, cousin of the groom, and Misses Milia Jones and Lou Reta King. Groom’s men, Messrs. Jim Lewis, Dan Beasley, Monroe Higgs and P.G. Stanford. Mr. N. Link of the Sunnyside neighborhood called at the News office Wednesday morning and told us of the death of T.S. Bransford of that community. He died Wednesday morning at 5 o’clock. The burial was the same day at Fairview cemetery. Mr. Bransford was a popular young man and a member of the Baptist church. The Kirby Lumber company is now solvent.
