The Twentieth Century Club formally opened their library to their room in the north east corner of the City Hall. We found Mrs. W.C. Lee and Mrs. D.O. McRimmon and her mother Mrs. Cullum in charge of the room Tuesday after noon and they very kindly informed us of the plans the club had formed for the success of the library. W.C. McCown placed his name one year higher on the honor roll. Monday morning early, we found E.W. Blackman of near Anson on the street with a wagon load of fine, registered Berkshire and Poland China pigs. The pigs belonged to Mr. Blackman’s father, J.J. Blackman, who had just shipped them in from Robertson county. Mrs. J.T. Owens has just returned to her home in Houston, after spending a few weeks with her sister, Mrs. S.W. McClellan. The child of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Wright of League City lost their child, a boy three years of age in the Galveston storm and for five years have mourned him as dead. Recently the parents found the child in a well-to-do family near Brownwood. They had got the child from the orphanage at Luling. The identity was fully established and the parents took their child. It was an only child. W.R. Ward, of Prescott, Arkansas, called at the News office last Saturday. Mr. Ward lived in Stamford several years ago, and we judge he will return. The Grand chapter of the Eastern Star of Texas, met in Dallas, Tuesday, Oct. 10. A chapter was organized in Stamford a few months ago by Mrs. Ward, Deputy Grand Matron. Mrs. S. Gay, W.M. of the Stamford Chapter left Monday for Dallas to attend the meeting as delegate of the Stamford chapter. A.F. Rutherford called at the News office. S. Gay, editor of the Stamford News, being duly sworn says the actual number of the Stamford News published weekly has been to the best of the knowledge 1000, and the present issue by actual county 1040. The instruction has been to the workmen to place 1000, machine counted papers, making a complete edition of the News, on the press each issue. -- S.A. Martin, Notary Public, 12 October 1905. B.W. Day who had been visiting his sons here and at Funston left Wednesday for his home in Hill county. Mrs. Henry Harris has been visiting relatives left on the train Wednesday for her home in Bell county. Mrs. W.H. Link and children left on the train Wednesday to visit relatives at Wayland, Valley, Texas. Elder E. Ward, pastor of the Baptist church at Anson called at the News office. E.M. Douthit of Lueders was in town yesterday with cotton. He placed his name on our honor roll. Douthit is an old stand by of the News. Judge Wynard, who has been in town several days looking after his property left on the train Wednesday for his home at Grand Saline, Texas. Bird Nobles of Whitney has a position with the Stamford Oil Mill. Local and Personal Walter P. Wright of Anson was in Stamford. E.H. Perry’s little girl, Marjorie, is quite sick with the slow fever. Richard, Boswell and Jack Dodson of Hearn are in town. P.W. Reynolds, manager of the Cisco Oil Mill was in Stamford Thursday. W.B. Bizzell and family of Albany moved to Stamford this week. Selling the Robertson Ranch We are selling this fine body of land, which is situated between Sweetwater Creek and the Shinery and just above the mouth of Sweetwater Creek. The Clear Fork of the Brazos runs through the land. The most of it is the best of sandy land, with plenty of water and wood. Compere Bros. Abilene, Texas T.J. Gross of Haskell county came in the office of the news. Mr. Gross will soon move to Tulia, where he has bought land and will locate. Mr. Gross has been living in Haskell county for three years. We met W.O. Hall on the streets a few days since and were sorry to find him sorely afflicted with rheumatism. J.E. Dickenson, who lives in Haskell county, spent last Sunday with his sons, R.M. and Will in Stamford. Mr. Dickenson has bought property in town and will soon move here. R.M. Dickenson has a new and better baker. P.G. Stanford of Anson was in town this week and gave us the following items: Rev. J.R. Morris preached at Anson Wednesday night. It was the Fourth quarterly conference occasion and Rev. C.H. Ledger of Truby was present. R.L. Penick and J.T. Halsel were in Anson Wednesday. Capt. Rayner and wife were in Anson Monday. Wright of Anson was in Stamford. Attorney, G.L. Davenport has moved his law office from the City Hall to two doors west of Post office. A.H. Goodwin, of Bakersfield, Cal. is in Stamford and will locate. He is a cousin of Judge L.M. Buie.
