Stanford says he is paying $8 per acre rent on his maize land this year, by giving a third of the maize. Capt. Millsap of Neinda is here today. A. Wadkins four miles north of Anson died very suddenly this morning. He was in his maize field with his son at work, when he was taken very sick, the son started to get help and found a man close by and when they got back he was dead, a doctor was summoned and stated that he died of paralysis of the heart. He will be buried at Fairview tomorrow. [Albert Wadkins, 1857 – 30 August 1905, 6 miles north of Anson, Jones Co., TX – 48 years, 3 months, 14 days; husband of Sterling Price Collier, wife buried New Hope] Frank Wood and Atty Verdeman of Clairmont were here today. Mr. Wood came down and paid a fine of $100 for violating the State Live-stock Quarantine Law. J.C. McJilton is in Stamford this week rustling the boys for their occupation taxes. P.G. Stanford and Albert Hightower went to Abilene. Uncle Henry Hale and Sigh Nixon, carried a car load of cattle to Abilene for shipment. Miss Lula Fletcher returned from Lockney. Frank P’Pool and family have been visiting here since last week and left for their home in Munday. W.B. Stark of Ellis county is here prospecting and visiting J.B. Zackery and family. Roy Hansford of Gorman, Texas passed through town today with his family in a wagon enroute to Roby and Sweetwater. B.F. Bailey is opening a first class dry goods house on the South side. J.F. McWilliams and bride arrived in Anson last night, from Hearne. Uncle Henry Hale left for Abilene today to bring his wife home. she is reported sick and the doctors fear that she has slow fever. A deed conveying about half of the town of Hamlin was filed with Col. Myers the County Clerk for record this morning: deeded by the Orient Land Co., to the United States and Mexican Trust co. Mollie Baileys Show will be here Saturday evening. colonel Myres says that its simply been too hot to sell Marriage licenses this month. Little Jack Nicholson, son of Mr. and Mrs. D.C. Nicholson of the west side, was bitten on the foot by a rattlesnake Wednesday evening and died Thursday morning. they tried the coal oil cure but it did no good. -- Haskell Free Press E.A. Mills of Bosque County has bought the Ike Hudson gin at Abbie and will engage in the ginning and farming business at that place. He also bought the A.J. Newton tract of land, 339 acres. Among the People E.C. Loggins August 31, the agent went to Lueders and the areas south of Stamford. Mr. Brannon lives just south of the railroad. Mrs. Dunn has leghorn chickens. I.O. Crosthwait at Avoca and friend of the News. Mrs. Thomas has fine chickens and W.W. Jobe, A.R. Clary and Mrs. Clary, J.H. Suggs, R.S. Trammell, T.M. Caton, J.C. Williams ginned four bales of cotton last week. J.N. Culwell, W.H. Williams, works at Brazelton Lumber yard. Mr. Matthews is the post master and keeps general mercantile. H. Howard the carpenter reports good business. J.R. ____ keeps a general store. Culwell & Company reports good business. J.E. ____ runs the blacksmith shop. The agent lands at Lueders, some eight miles further down the railroad, on the bank of the Clear Fork. There is a valuable rock quarry which employs many men and is shipping rock. D.J. Olinger is the postmaster at Lueders and also owns a drug store. W.M. Williams has a general merchandise store. Dr. G. ____ is a good friend of the news. A.C. Petts, manager of the rock quarry said they were doing good business. G.W. Wilson, employed a the rock quarry said he had a pair of good mules, Henry Liebe, E.M. Vickers, Paul Koch, E.M. Douthit, W.L. Brox, W.M. Roberts, R.L. Newman, owner of the Clear Fork Rock Quarry, said business was good. Gus Liebe. The agent was now on his way to Funston, and called at C.J. Seth’s, W.B. Pyron, Met J.E. Williams in road. J.B. Pannell. At this time the News man reached town with a long list of new reads of the News. Abbie News Mrs. Gray is rapidly improving. Mrs. L.B. Dixon suffered a severe attack of cramp colic on Thursday. Dr. Palmer reports her recovery. Mr. Beard who was prospecting in our area has decided to locate a few miles west where lands are cheaper. Abbie lands are being taken up rapidly at present prices. Several loads of lumber have passed through Abbie, enroute to Fisher county where they are erecting a new church. Mr. W.E. Reynolds of Abilene is visiting his uncle, Mr. Greenway, south of town. Mrs. Antony has slow fever. The bridge over the creek at Abbie, built by J.J. Dyer was received by the county and a dump is being thrown up at the abutments. Meeting of the Quadra-county Medical Society of Jones, Haskell, Knox and King counties was held at Anson Wednesday. Dr. McReynolds of Stamford read an interesting paper. Discussion was given by Drs. Calloway and Shapard of Anson. Dr. Smith of Sinclair and Dr. Adamson of Anson were balloted. The application of Dr. Palmer of Abbie was placed for before the committee of sensors. Dr. Lewis of Nugent was in attendance. Mr. Blankenbeckler has been in ailing health for several weeks. At his request, Bro. Biggs administered the rite of baptism and received him into the church. Visit to the Gins Wednesday having business at the Freight Depot and seeing that the gins were in operation we went over to see the new machinery work. W.F. Bullington was in charge of the Swenson gin and showed us through the plant which is one of the largest and best equipped in all the South. E.T Rosamond was in charge of his gin which was running at full speed the machinery was given perfect satisfaction. A card of thanks I take this method of thanking all who were so kind as to administer to my cousin, R.E. Carpenter in his last illness at the Prospectors Hotel. I thank the generous Wm. Dodson and family, who from genuine friendship and human sympathy took Mr. Carpenter in their home without knowing whether they would ever be compensated. I wish to thank the beautiful act of Mrs. young and the lady members of Mr. Dodson’s family in placing a beautiful wreath of flowers on the coffin. --Jessie H. Carpenter, Cuthbert, Texas. Lueders Mrs. Tommie and her little grandson of Albany visited Lueders Saturday and Sunday. Rev. Walter Evans visited in Lueders last week. Rev. G.N. Williams and Rev. Ira Parrack preached on Sunday. Mr. Fox has several new hands at the rock quarry now. I am now connected with the Dry Goods firm of J.E. Raines. -- Octavia Manley. B.F. McCullough came down from Carney Thursday and met his brother, J.J. McCullough from Coolage, Texas. It has been said that we have some Mormon missionaries in this section. We hope however that there are none going off after this fake. W.B. Amerson is added to the honor roll. Mrs. A. Duggan came on a visit to her daughter, Mrs. J.A. Hart, Thursday evening. C.B. Sayles, formerly with the American Type Founders Company has been in town. Mollie Baileys shows will get several nickels in Stamford and leave you nothing to show for it, but you can get value received at The Nickel Store. New Dry Goods Store North Side square J.W. Dean & Co. Dr. E. Sandford will be at the Hotel Sept. 20th to 23. He is the only ophthalmologist and neurologist who ever visited our town. Miss Nora Cargill left Thursday for commercial college in Dallas. Mrs. M.L. Griggs and children of Ellis county, passed through Stamford Tuesday to visit relatives in Knox County. Rennels in the Spring Creek neighborhood. Born: - To Mr. and Mrs. Egbert Wood, Fort Worth, Texas, a boy Sept. 3, 1905. R.E. Carpenter who has been sick for some time at the Prospector’s Hotel died at 3 o’clock Tuesday morning and was buried in the Stamford cemetery. J.H. Carpenter of Scurry county, a cousin of the deceased was here to attend the burial.
