One of the men was seen taking a pair of pants from the Stamford Dry Goods Company, Mr. Davis, took hold of him and followed him. Burgess succeeded in reaching the side. Burgess pushed for the door making his escape. L.H. McCaul was also a suspect and two women. McCaul was arrested and is locked up in the calaboose. Letters to the Editor first printed. Wednesday morning the earth was covered with the first snow of the season. Lawton, O.T., Jan. 8 Geronimo, the Apache warrior was married Christmas day for the eighth time. The bride is Mary Loto, widow of a prominent Indian who died two years ago. Geronimo is 76 years old. His seventh wife died about two years ago. Abbie News Will Dixon of near Burleson, Johnson county has been visiting his sons A.T. and I.J. Dixon near this place. Mrs. T.B. Middleton and daughter, Miss Belle returned from their visit to Ft. Worth. Mr. A.J. Newton moved on his place Tuesday he had rented for another year in the Adams pasture. Mr. Will Fomby who has recently moved in here returned Sunday night with his wife, whom he met the other side of Aspermont. School opened up the first Monday of this month wiht Prof. Shields principal and Miss Pearl McClaran assistant, but on account of so much cotton in the fields the school has been rather short. Will Wilson returned last week from Valley Mills where he has been visiting relatives. Mr. Zbranek sold his cotton to a bunch of Mexicans and will more on J.D. McClaren’s place. J.L Herbst and wife have been visiting their parents in Stonewall county. Social at Lueders Among the enjoyable events of the season was a house party given by Mr. and Mrs. E.M. Douthit of Lueders in honor of Misses Louise and Vallie Manning of Albany. The young ladies present were Misses Annie and Ellie Nettles, Clara Culwell, Ora Hargrove, and Kat Crosthwait of Avoca, and Miss Blanche Arnold of Nugent. The gentlemen were Messrs. Fox, Ballinger and Vickers of Lueders, and Beatty, Riddle, Caton, Nettles, Culwell, Johnson, Dunn, Clay and Hallof Avoca. Rev. J.A [Josephus Amariah] Biggs and wife on the train yesterday for Abilene where they will reside. Stamford Loan Association with Capital of $25,000 This week papers have been circulated in the city by S.A. Martin, N.G. Nold, G.L. Davenport and R.E. McDonald, soliciting subscriptions for stock in building and loan association in Stamford. The Stamford Volunteer Fire Department met in the room in the City Hall, Jan. 4, 1906. The officers for the ensuing year were elected. Dr. J.R. Sledge, chief; C.L. Meeker, asst. chief; D.A. Whittington, sec.; E.B. Williams, treasurer; John Busby, foreman. Hose Co. No. 1. J.H; Rutherford asst. foreman; W.W. Fuqua, foreman, Hose Co. No. 2. Thad Clark, asst. W.C. Lawson, foreman H & L. Bud Clark, asst. There were about one half of the members present. Chief Dr. J.R. Sledge stated the propose purchase of a fire engine and a committee of two, D.A. Whittington and W.W. Fuqua, were appointed to canvass the city to raise the necessary money for the purchase of the engine. On account of sickness, Mr. Rike has been delayed in laying off the balance of the lots and blocks in Lake Park addition. - Ira Border, Agt. S.A. Arnold and E.J. Harris of Hamlin were in town yesterday. We are Coming! over the Texas Central Railroad Dr. W.F.Blair of Sherman, Texas, in his own private car with his grand concert company, giving free open air concerts on the streets, every day and night. About the Ton-Ko-No Medicine Co., of Sherman of which Dr. W.F.Blair is proprietor. Rev. U.C. Howard, pastor of the Cumberland Presbyterian church, says the work under his charge has had a flattering beginning. It is proposed ot put a fresh coat of paint on the church and have it relighted. Hico Review changes hands in 1906 with Mr. Adamsn propritor and Mr. Power, manager. Local and Personal Mr. Power left on the train for Hico. G.H. Randle, a prominent of Waco died Jan. 4, 1906. The Walker Grocery Co filed a petition of bankruptcy on Jan. 4th. The City Grocery Co., on Southside solicits your grocery trade. S. Ragsdale and Hunter have bought the Carney newspaper from W.L. Power and will continue the paper under its old name. Rev. U.C. Howard came last week and filled the Cumberland Presbyterian pulpit last Sunday as regular pastor. Ben R. Hackett a prominent citizen of Fort Worth and connected with the live stock business was found dead in his bed Jan. 7 at his residence. Died of apoplexy. A. Gustafson of Throckmorton has been in Stamford this week. Don’t Forget that the Star Shooting Gallery gives a special prize each evening. Throckmorton Times Walter McKay was in town Tuesday from the Knob. J.A. Bachman and Miss Minnie Cox were quietly married at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. S.F. Knox on Christmas eve, Rev. W.P. Davis officiating. Albany News J.B. Miller rushed in on us one day last week. Miss Mamie Cullum was down from Stamford Sunday. D.S. Cullum was down from Stamford. Aspermont Star On Sunday December 24th at 3:30 p.m. at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Moody in Aspermont, Rev. W.B. Martin joined in holy wedlock J.D. Hart and Miss Mabel Moody. Charlie McLaury and Miss Una Lee were united in the holy bonds of matrimony on December 23rd. Tom Hart and Miss Arra Smith were married at the home of the bride’s parents Mr. and Mrs. T.K. Smith, on the night of December 27th, Rev. A.T. Ford officiating. Walter Martin slipped off to Haskell during the holidays and got himself married to Mrs. Austin. They will make their home in Stonewall county. Roe Irvin and Miss Lena Hill went to Guthrie Christmas Day and procured a marriage license and were united in marriage. Henry Boydston and Miss Mirandy Westfall were married at the home of the bride’s parents near Gatling, on December 27th. Rev. E.B. Featherston officiated. Newton Terry arrived last week with a new bride, but we failed to learn to whom he married. They are domiciled on the Terry ranch two miles east of town. Munday Times J.E. Rowe a substantial citizen of Ellis county was in the city of the week and purchased through Stockton Brothers & Bullock the fine farm of J.C. Wright 2 miles east of town at $25 per acre. W. Ed. Beard and Miss Bessie Ruff surprised their many friends by driving to Benjamin Tuesday,Dec. 26th and getting married by Judge Moore. W.E. Lawson who resider for the last year a few miles west of town has moved to Stamford where he is connected with a grocery business. Stamford Mercantile Co. on North Swenson Street G.W. Her husband is Chief Engineer on the Wichita Extension. Anson All-Sorts Court is stll grinding on. Lee Churchill died in the office of the Stamford Cotton Yard Wednesday night. He came in town a few days ago from his father's and stopped in the cotton yard office, and as he was not able to go farther or to secure a place to go Mr. Morgan turned the office over to him. Mr. Churchill has been seriously ill for a long time and it has not been thought that he could recover. The burial was in the Stamford cemetery Thursday evening. Variety L.E.
