Lost on the Hitson road in December. Jos. D. Quin, Stamford, Texas Yesterday, Mike Powell, who is hauling coal from the Jones' mine north of Crystal Falls, arrived with a load of coal, which attracted considerable attention, as one huge lump constituted the whole load. It was about 6 feet long, eighteen inches thick, three feet wide and weighed over 1500 pounds. The Jones mine is situated about 2 miles north of Crystal Falls. The vein of coal from which this large block was taken is about 3 feet thick - 2 eighteen inch veins separated by an inch of waste. Cost of coal is $6 a ton laid down here. Local and Personal Dr. S.S. Callicoatt pricked his hand with a lance last week and blood poison set up. Dr. C.H. Miller of Collinsville has located in Stamford and will office in the New Masonic building. R.F. Qualls and D.N. Qualls sons of J.H. Qualls of Marcy called at the New office. J.B. Wolfskill of Saline County, Mo., is visiting C.R. Woodson and looking at the country to locate. Mrs. N. Leavitt and her sister, Mrs. E.M. Dillon, went to Abilene Monday. W.B. Grantham of Corsicana is looking to locate. Claud Galbraith of Stonewall county was in town. G.W. Porter of Aspermont was in town. Mr. Porter is now associated with the Farmer’s Supply company of Aspermont. Avoca News Mr. Cantrill who has been visiting his son, left today for his home in Ellis county. He is well pleased with the Avoca country. Mr. Barr has taken possession of the Bragg place, bought by him a few months ago. Mr. Gilley has moved to his new house east of town, and it getting ready for his crop. He came from the Sunnyside community. A Mr. Franklin from East Texas, has bought 80 acres of land on the east end of Chas. William’s place and will build. The new Post Office building will soon be ready for use. Matthews and Starkey wil add considerably to their stock when the P.O. is moved into its new building, giving them more room. The entertainment given by Miss and Mr. Maluf in the City hall was entertaining and instructive. The views of the ruins of the Holy Land were very interesting. In the case of State of Texas against Matlock charged with horse theft, the jury stood 11 to 1 for conviction. J.E. Turner was buried yesterday afternoon by the Woodmen of the World. Mr. Tucker was crossing the railroad three miles east of Abilene after dark with his little boy in the wagon, driving two horses and leading two behind, and the norther was cold and furious, and they were well wrapt up and the train was running without a headlight, and the collision came, killing Mr. Tucker and one horse and fracturing the skull of the little boy. He leaves two other children, a little girl about 12 years old and a boy about 7 or 8, the little boy that was in the fatal collision being about 10 years of age.
