Day and Mrs. Abbott spent the day in Anson. The child of Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Rolland is sick. Mr. B.E. Compton and daughters Misses Ola and Etta spent Sunday in Avoca. Mrs. Samuel Jackson died at her home on South side, February 15, 1906, and was buried Feb. 16, 1906 by the Odd Fellows of Stamford. Mrs. Jackson has been ill for a long time. She was 54 years of age. Greer who is president and leader for the Stamford Band. Miss Laura Wilkinson and Mrs Pearl Swan of Swan’s Chapel were at the News. Mistrot Bros. & Co. are adding on their building. The Graham Leader has installed a large Babcock Press and a new engine and came out last week in a 12 page edition. A College for West Texas Meeting of Pastors’ Institute held at Abilene Committee on school site appinted. Stamford’s chance for school. We take this opportunity of thanking the Cumberland Presbyterians for the use of their Church House each Lord’s day afternoon at three o’clock until we can build. Bro. J.T. Stricklin Corinth Cullings Mr. Thurman is on the sick list. Prof. Morgan is teaching our school. Miss Annie Cross was shopping in Stamford. Mr. Edgard Adams has purchased a “brand new buggy” look out girls. Rev. Johnson will preach at the place next Saturday and Sunday. Jess Leavins has gone to Ft. Worth to attend barber college. Mr. Adams is having a neat little cottage erected on his place. Will Huff and wife went to Stamford. Joe Thurman of near Stamford visited his parents. Col. Sam Webb and Richard McCarty were up from Albany to the Anniversary Banquet Monday. Avoca News Wood Cantrell has finished his house in the south part of town, and moved into it; and Winfield Cantrell will soon have his ready for occupancy. Our gin is still busy. Rev. C.D. West and wife visited at Lawn in Taylor Co. last week, and attended the preacher’s meeting at Abilene, also, and Miss Gertrude Askew of Lawn came home with them for a few weeks. The building committee for the Methodist church has bought a lot from R.M. Cox and on it one day this week staking off the foundation and are expected the stone for foundation to come. We are having a series of lectures at the school house at night this week by Mr. McCullogh on Socialism. Mrs. F.M. Whitaker has been quite sick for two weeks. Mrs. Thomas Humphrey has also been sick. Bob Hines and wife were both in ged with LaGrippe. Avoca needs more rent houses Anson All-Sorts Among those attended the Stamford Anniversary banquet at Stamford Monday evening from Anson were Hon. Jas. P. Stinson, Ed Kennedy, Chas. P’Pool and Wade Martin. W.R. Chapman is in Knox City. L.E. Steed, are in St. Louis this week. Miss Emoline Pickens has gone to St. Louis to reside, and Bud Millsaps looks east. Knox Pittard has returned from Dallas. Turner Rolins of Abilene is here today. C.H. Steele broke dirt yesterday and has under good head way to day the preparation the foundation for another large brick building for Anson. The new Veitch Hotel is now being furnished and carpeted for occupancy in the near future. Judge L.M. Buie was in Anson. Jake Wright lost his house by fire. This was the finest country residence any where near Anson, just completed and furnished without insurance. Captain W.E. Rayner of Stamford is making a considerable Rayner addition to the town of Anson of the Yates property. Anson will soon have three lumber yards. Married In the Methodist church John W.
