A Partial History of Its Life. Established in February 1900 This issue of the News is the last in the sixth year. The paper was started with the town, the first issue being printed in a tent near the present location of Brazelton & Johnson’s lumber yard a few days after the first train had arrived February 11, 1900. Lacy and Rhea were the proprietors, and Mr. Lacy had charge of the plant. In a short time the office was moved to a room in the building now occupied by Buie & Sparks. We bought the paper the first of September, 1900, and took charge the first of November. We dropped on issue the Christmas following on account of putting in a cylinder press and making improvements. Since we have had charge of it, the paper has occupied its own home. The Stamford News stands for the right, and confesses that it may be mistaken sometimes in its views, but it is broad enough to have an ear for the other side.
