Judge J.L. Fisher has given his special attention to the project. The K. of P., I.O.O.F. and W.O.W. order will have a hall in the same building. Col. Nathan Leavitt has received the nomination as postmaster of Stamford for the next four years. The sixth anniversary of Stamford comes February 11th. On this date the first train came into the town site six years ago. At that time there had not been a lot sold of the present town, there was not a house on the town section, except a little shack of a house built by Bro. Osburn, a Baptist preacher, who had gotten permission from the Townsite Company to build on the northwest corner of the town section with the understanding that he would buy a lot when they were placed on the market and move the house on it. Building began rapidly after the railroad was completed. Business houses and residences all moved along together, and since the day when the first house was built, building and improvements have never entirely ceased though for a short season there was not as much activity as there was before or has bene since. The town will celebrate the anniversary with a banquet at the Stamford Inn, Monday night, February 12. Joe Smith left Wednesday for Rule where the mercantile house of Link, Bryant, & Payne will be opened of which Mr. smith is secretary. T.F. Benton renews. Methodist School Question Abilene District College. Stamford Admirably Located for the School Cards are out announcing the marriage of Miss Kate Cooper and Mr. John W. McCarey in the Methodist church, Sunday morning, Feb. 11, 9 o’clock. Miss Katie came with her parents to Stamford several years ago. Their home will be Texico, New Mexico. Married - George S. Link and Miss Willie Wyatte at the home of Elder F.S. Groner Sunday evening 2:30 o’clock, Feb. 4th, 1906, F.S. Groner, officiating. Mr. Link has been in Jones county many years and connected with the Baker-Bryant company for several years. The bride is a sister of Mrs. F.S. Groner. They will go soon to rule to make their home, Mr. Link is the head of the firm of Link, Bryant & Payne dealers in general merchandise in Rule, Texas. W.E. Whittington and wife, (nee) Miss Mattie Kirkpatrick, returned on the train Sunday night. they were married at Telico, near Ennis, Wednesay at 1 o’clock. Mr. Whittington has a position with Penick-Hughes Co., furniture department in Stamford. The bride is a sister of Mr. J.R. Kirkpatrick and has visited at different times. Mr. G.E. Boyd and Miss Nellie E. Whitaker married at the Methodist parsonage, Sunday evening, Feb. 4th, 1906. Rev. R.B. Evans officiating. The bride came on the evening train from Bosque county, the groom lives near Anson. Anson All-Sorts (too late for publication in last issue) Jan. 31, 1906 Mr. J.A. Lawler of Abilene has secured ground and title thereto for a site for a lumber yard in Anson, and also Mr. Lawler has bought a $1000 resident lot in the South part of Anson. Messrs. W.E. Douglas of Denton were here looking for property. They were formerly in business here. Messrs. Sparks, Graves and Watson of Rains county were here prospecting. They are relatives of G.W. Chapman, former resident of the Hub, now of Abilene. Jim King of Neinda has bought the Tom Witt residence property. Mr. Witt will got to Hamlin to engage in business. B.F. Bailey & Company will open a business in McCaulley. Geo. H. Baker & Co. will open a business in McCaulley. J.N. Loop of Stamford was in Anson. Poll tax payments have been coming in. Anson All-Sorts Wednesay, Feb. 7, 1906 J.A. Lawler of Abilene is here in the interest of his lumber yard. Also Mr. R.B. Spencer of the Spencer & Abbott Lumber Co. was here today looking for a location for a yard. Mrs. Haskell lectured at the Presbyterian church in the interest of the Ladies Cemetery Association. Miss Ella Nixon has gone to El Paso to reside. W.H. Tucker of Big Springs was here looking after the affairs of his brother, J.E. Tucker, deceased. Mrs. Elsie Malone McCollum and the children of Haskell stopped with Mr. and Mrs. L.N. Riter Thursday night on their way to McCaulley where they will reside. Local and Personal T.A. Williams, fire insurance agent, Stamford T.A. Williams, notary. B.P. Bomar is thinking of putting in a nursery.
