Raines, The Fastest Growing Dry Goods House in Stamford. Stamford, Texas Rule, Texas Local and Personal D.H. Billingsley was in town from Hamlin. Knox Pittard, druggist in Anson was in Stamford. J.D. Stovall visited the News. Red Coal Oil is the best in Stamford. T.W. Huff and family of the Dee community were in town trading. Tie Wallace and wife are in Galveston. Mrs. A. Ward, left for Fort Worth Monday where she will spend time with friends. Mrs. Hills who has been visiting friends at Carney returned to her home at Clear Fork. Miss Bert Connoly who has been visiting friends in Stamford left for her home in Hico. A.L. Purifoy “the candy man” has been quite ill. E.H. Green left for Ft. Worth for a surgical procedure. Mrs. J. Kilpatrick and children left for Fort Word. W.A Turner from Era, Coke county, left on the train after a visit to friends in Haskell county. W.S. Harper, delivery man of Anson brought Col. Walsh over Wednesday. L.E. Stead and daughter, Miss Lucy came over from Anson. Birt Potts of Anson left for the Galveston convention of K. of P. W.T. Turner, a prosperous farmer of 8 miles south of town is preparing to kill all the prairie dogs on his farm. W.H. Ewing who had been visiting Mr. E. Billingsley, west of town, left on the train Monday for his home at Cleburne. Uncle J.M. Johnson of the Fairview neighborhood left on the train. I.C. Rutherford, wife and children left on the train Wednesday moring to visit relaitives at Gatesville. Mrs. C.A. Duren and children, who live south of town left on the train Wednesday to visit friends at San Marcos. Bicycles for sale Green and Short A.H. Foster and daughter, Miss Lula, and Miss Rosa Bush all of the Fairview community were in Stamford trading. Mr. C.L. Mistrot, head of the Mistrot Brothers & Co. at this place. J.F. Barlow and son of Haskell county were in Stamford Thursday. Mr. Barlow has recently come from Bell county and is pleased with the country. Born - to Mr. and Mrs. W. Yates in the Lueders neighborhood, Sunday, April 22, 1906, girl. Miss Bertha Bizzell will begin a private school in the Public School building Monday, Mary 21, 1906. For beginners $2 and above third grade $3 per month. The Stamford News plant will give us 2000 feet of floor space which will give some idea of the present capacity of the plant. We will operate the Job department from our old engine which has ample capacity to pull all our machines. The News is emphatically a paper for the Stamford country. News Reporter Visit to Hamlin The Star Hotel is nearly completed and is now being furnished. This will be one of the most commodious and elegantly furnished hostelries in West Texas. It will have 19 large rooms, and porches and wide halls and all modern conveniences. Mr. W.J. Grover is the proprietor. Hamlin is one of the most progressive towns on the Orient road and being located on the large tank at the California creek it will always have an abundance of water. Rev. F.C. Berry, Episcopalian Rector, will preach to the Odd Fellows in their lodge room. New Steel Bridge Across the Clear Fork joint meeting of the commissioners of Jones and Shackleford counties near Lueders Shackelford: Judge I.M. Chism, J.F. Pate, J.B. Mathews Jones: Judge G.W. Dakan, T.J. Barrett, J.C. Warren Contract awarded to Chas. R. Moore, of Austin Bros. Steel Bridge Co. Cost will be $3100. Messrs. Glenn Rector and T.S. Higginbotham, with their families, were driving near the large tank when the tongue of the buggy came loose and ran into the ground, this turned the buggy completely over. None were hurt. Mr. W.O. Wetherbee reached Stamford last Saturday on his semi-annual visit. He represents the Swenson land interest in the country. Anson All-Sorts Representatives of the U.C.V. at new Orleans, Col. R.A. Myers, Capt. J.D. Pickens, Ed Kennedy, H.B. Kennedy, A.N. Williams, Misses Minnie Myers, Bessie Jones. To Ft. Worth State Medical Association: Drs. G.M. Callaway, Shapard, and D.e. Williams. R.J. Maxwell is building a nice house. Dr. Howell is adding to his residence. Miss Altha Rodgers is having her house repainted. Ed Martins new house is near completion. The Odd Fellows and G.M. Pittman will erect a 2 story building on the lot belonging to Mr. Pittman southwest corner of the square, and Mr. Pittman will occupy the lower level with his restaurant and the upper story will be the Odd Fellows Hall. Mr. Tanner, recently from Haskell county bought Mr. Hays Smith residence. Last week, P.G. Stanford and Capt. T.A. White bought the Crabtree farm one mile west of town, to J.T. Berry, and Mr. Berry decided not to go to Alabama, after selling and today bought Mr. Roans 3 residences in the south part of Anson. Jas. P. Stinson and Knox Pittard are having a Skating Rink put on the east side of the square. Mr. Jeff Barrett is building a residence just west of the town line north of Mr. Ike Hudsons. Mrs. Perry Glenn, who lived in the Fairview neighborhood on Monday evening when her team escaped and the buggy flipped over driving near the Eleslie ranch. The burial was in the Fairview cemetery. Miss Minnie Burlsmith left for Waco to recuperate her health. Chas. Simmons, H.S. Abbott, Wallace Newman and R.M. Dickenson left Tuesday for the river to catch fish. Our old friend, R.W. Rhea is an old veteran and is far into his 80s and on the honor roll. Rev. R.B. Evans, Dr. J.R. Scott and family and T.D. Morrel and family left for fishing. W.R. Southwell, Rube Wilkenson, J.E. Daffin and J.C Hood of Lott, Texas will locate in or near Stamford. J.A. Terry left on a business trip to Dallas. Stamford has an excellent local telephone service, but the long distance accommodations are not quite up to the advanced conditions elsewhere. We should have a copper wire connection with Cisco. Mr. Paul Waples, President of the Waples Platter Grocery Co., was so much pleased with the outlook of Stamford and the country, that he authorized the Dallas News reporter to say that his company would put a wholesale house in Stamford at once. Terry, wife and son left for their home in Hunt county after prospecting. F.E. Benham of the Abbie neighborhood and Mr. W.A. Lewis of Bell county were in Avoca. Mrs. Gus. R. Moore came in Saturday evening from Hillsboro. Mr. Moore has accepted a position with The Stamford News. Mrs. B.B. Gaines and Miss Ida Turner who have been visiting friends in Stamford returned to their home at Fort Worth Monday. Frank Nellis, of Bowie, Texas, has accepted a position at Anson as saddler. Mr. Nellis was in Stamford Monday. Mr. J.W. Starkey, member of the firm of Black & Starkey, of Avoca, was in Stamford on business. Mrs. J.H. Whittington who underwent an operation in Fort Worth is recovering. Mrs. J.L. Ramsey and Mrs. E.K. Jones both of Honey Grove visited their parents and friends in town. All kinds of fuel for sale. Elk Horn Wagon Yard, J.R. Reed, Prop. D.M. Hart went down to Albany Tuesday to see about the construction of a skating rink at that place. Recently a company was formed for the purpose of constructing a rink and Mr. Hart got the contract. Capt. E.T. Johnson and daughters, Mrs. J.S. Culwell and Miss Minnie Johnson, and Joe Samples and wife and sister, Miss Lula Samples, all of Avoca neighborhood are at the U.C.V. Reunion at New Orleans this week. They have been recently to Lubbock and Mrs. Rayner came here and the Capt. went to Fort Worth. His health has gotten bad again.
