Sauers and Miss Hinds, officiated by Rev. Edmond ____ of the Bapitst church. She has a position with McRimmon Mercantile and he is the manager of the Albany Telephone Co. in Stamford. Stamford Sewer Company is filing papers in Austin for the charter. List of Letters advertised in the post office in Stamford, Texas, July 16, 1906 Harry Adams, Tom Wilson, C.E. Davis, B.F. Hale, W.L. Thornhill, Ed Teague, Miss Hattie Rogers, S.F. Worley. Work has begun on a very niche house for the home of the pastor of the Baptist church. It is east on the same lost as the church. On the Way to Sagerton Mr. Burton of the Sagerton Hotel offered me a hot meal. Mr. A.F. Smith is sick. The annual excursion of the Central Texas Press Association reached Stamford Monday evening. It will be located on the block north of the Stamford Livery Stable. Mr. Lawson will superintend the owrk and proposes to push the job to completion. Rev. O.G. Jones of Big Springs is in the city and has been invited by Rev. U.C. Howard to occupy his pulpit. Rev. O.F. Jones, evangelist for the El Paso presbytery preaching two interesting sermons. L.N. Riter is having a business house built at Hamlin. Miss Clara Humphrey who has been visiting Miss Alice Morrel left for her home at Albany. Abilene - 44,000. Colorado City - 27,000. The Locating Committee was out early this morning with Stamford citizens looking a the locations offered. The procession first went to Dr. Bunkley’s place north of town. This is a beautiful site a few hundred yards north of the town section. An elevated knoll sloping in every direction. You are invited to attend the Musical Romanee tonight at E.B. Wilkinson’s residence. I am A.M. Craig, candidate for the office of County Judge, subject to the democratic primary. I located in Anson, June, 1889, when there were but few people in Anson and comparatively few people in Jones county; hence, I am personally known to all the old settlers. About 9 o’clock last night the fire alarm was sounded. The fire was found to be in the City Hotel. A lamp exploded in the room of Clarence Barnaby burning up some of his clothes and all of the wall paper on his room. Mr. Cargill used quilts to smother the fire. The News had a barrel of ink on tap for the press people today and the Tribune served red-ink and Tympan flakes. B.B. Cavitt of Keyser, West Virginia, came in on last night’s train. Mr. Cavitt lived in Stamford several years ago and is a large property holder in the town at present. He has not been here for several years and says the growth of the town is wonderful. Some theological seminary should at once offer the chair of exegesis to our friend, R.H. McCarty. Mac should never be allowed to keep such an amount of Biblical knowledge to himself, there is too much danger of its being lost to the world. Local and Personals From Tuesday’s Daily W.A. Brown left for Comanche for a visit. W.A. King and family who have been visiting at Haskell left for their home in Big Springs. R. Bushell of Dallas is in town visiting his daughter, Mrs. Fred Ragsdale. R. Newman and wife of Palo Pinto who has been in Stamford has left for St. Augustine. J.M. Bradley and wife of Lorena called today. Mr. Bradley is the publisher of the Vidette. Mrs. N.M. Franks left today for a visit to Lockhart. J.M. Clemmings has been prospecting and returned to his home at Mart. W.F. McMillina, G.P.A. of the Central came with the newspaper folks. Mrs. N.L. Hendricks has been visiting at Anson and left for her home at Anna. Dr. W.D. Newel has been prospecting in town and left for his home in Gatesville. A.Lee Brown, representing the Texas Pythian Banner, Temple, Texas, is with the Press and called at the News. C.F. Lehman of the Halletsville Herald and W.H. Mays of the Brownwood Bulletin were in town. Our genial Ramsey Cox, Superintendent of the Central is with the newspapermen. O.P. “Pink” Gresham, publisher of Mirror at Temple was in town. The address of welcome this morning by Mr. F.S. Hastings and the response by Mr. John McCollum were happy assiciates. From Wednesday’s Daily J.A. Kelly left for Fort Worth. J.L. Willie cooper and Dr. Rutherford returned yesterday from fishing. Tom chamberlain of Dallas made a business trip to Ft. Worth. H.G. Russel, has been prospecting returned to his home at Ross. J.W. Brewey left this morning for his home at Dallas after a visit to Haskell. D.W. Tubb, who has been visiting S.H. Hunt of our city, returned to his home at Oakwood. J. Archer of Penelope has been prospecting. W.M. Kelley of White Flat left for Waco today. He says that the Central is graded within 4 miles of his home. We publish the poem read by Miss Maid J. Allen at the close of the entertainment last night on the Inn Veranda. C. Lindbill left this morning for his home at Waco. J.B. Taylor made a visit to his father at Hearne. R.B. Craft returned to his home at Fort Worth. E.G. Elliott of Haskell made a business trip to Dallas. W.L. Hodges returned to his home at Temple. M.E Newton of Kerrville returned to his home. Miss Lucy Crenshaw returned to her home at Big Springs. Judge L.M. Buie has a growing admiration for Stamford. Mrs. J.A. White and daughter left this morning for Mineral Wells. Mrs. G.w. Thompson of our city left this morning for Morgan on a visit to her mother. Prof. L. T. Cunningham and wife left for a visit to Dallas. D.J. Jones, who has been here prospecting returned to his home at Valley Mills today. He will move out near Wienert soon. Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Alexander were among the visitors very much to the delight of Stamford. Mrs. Alexander fills an important place in the Woman’s Press of the State. Mr. W.M. Taylor of Rosebud, together with his son M.C. Taylor, who has been prospecting. By last night’s mail, we learned that Dr. W.R. Tyler who is going to put in a dentist office. We understand that he will be with Dr. J.R. Scott. The Cornet Band was the recipient of many nice compliments. Mr. Mayes said he had just returned from an extended trip North and he had not heard better music. Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Warock, publisher of the Rosebud News stopped by the News. Little Preston Moore, while playing last evening with another boy, had the misfortune to have his right arm broken near the wrist. Dr. Moore dressed the wound. At the Inn Tuesday night one of the attractions was a balloon ascension by Mr. T.M. Richardson. Mr. Richardson sent up a large paper balloon. It rose ... until it was lost in the distance. Misses Ada and Simmie Crabtree left this morning for Italy. H.F. Carrol left for Cleburne on business. J. W. Coleman left for Hunt county to visit relatives. Mrs. A. Ferguson and Miss Laura Ferguson left for Waco. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hatch who have been visiting Anson left for Waco. O.E. Sapp, left for Killeen. Mrs. J.M. Wilson has been visiting John Garren of Haskell left for Crawford. Miss Carnen Shuman and Miss Edson called at the News. Miss shuman lives at Avoca and Edson is from Denton. The Stamford News has never had the pleasure of announcing any thing that we appreciate more than we do the announcement of the College, we feel that one of the greatest strains on the people has passed, we have felt confident all along the line that Stamford would win in this race, but, it is really a surprise to us to know that we have out run all the contestants at a full length. Richardson has been visiting the family of W.R. Davis left for her home at Breckenridge. C.L. Rogers, the saddler, has received new Leather goods. Call on him at his new stand, south side square. Dr. Tyler has written to Dr. Scott and will arrive soon. A.A Bessire left yesterday for West, Texas. John Steppens left yesterday for Fort Worth. Eustice Morgan went to Clear Fork yesterday. Rev. F.T. Johnson and wife went to Avoca. Miss Mary Smith is now at J.W. Dean & Co. as sales lady. G.C. Dial went to Lueders to see his parents. Hon. Cullen C. Higgin went to Lueders. mrs. M.B. Brown left for Stephenville. Mrs. A.A. Ivy left this morning for Jewett where she will reside. J.M. Lively went to Cisco for materials to build. Miss Gertrude Clifford of Fort Worth came last evening to visit Miss Callie Smith. Frank and Roswell Blankenbeckler visited friends at Lueders. Mrs. M.M. Kelley and family left for Carbon to visit friends. Mrs. s.H. Hunt left yesterday to visit a sick daughter at Fort worht. W.A. Shipley and wife of Floydada left for West. George Risley went down to Clear Fork. L.S. Holloway spent last night in town. T.P. Walker of Haskell is in town. Mr. John Christopher went to Lueders. Roy L. Wheeler left for Galveston. Mrs. Chas. Leavitt has decided to make his new brick a two story building. Mrs. S.C. Harris left this morning on a visit to her mother at Campbell. mrs. S.E. Dunn of Sipe Springs returned to Gorman after a visit to Haskell. Mrs. M.C. McKinney has been visiting in Haskell and returned to her home at Temple. Miss Iva Bolingter who has been visiting at Haskell left yesterday morning for her home at Temple. J.J. Goodfellow and son who have been surveying land for Swenson Bros. left for their home in Fort Worth. Adjutant General, John A. Hulen has issued orders for the encampment of the Texas National Guards at Camp Mabry, from August 5 to 19, 1906. M.D Webb, S.F. Terry and son, J.M. Terry, leave today for Anson where they will put in a large stock of goods. Rev. Oliver Jones, who filled the pulpit of the Cumberland Church on yesterday, returned to his home at Big Springs this morning. He is the Evangelist for the El Paso Presbytery. Willard Robinson, an old time West Texan called at the News office. Mr. Robinson is from Los Angeles and is visiting old friends in the city. Mr. Robinson many years ago supplied this country with fruit trees. Fort Worth is now planning for the largest amphitheater in the world with other buildings in which to hold the fat stock show. H.H. Hutchins has been prospecting and returned to Hugo. Miss Glenella Russell of Haskell left on a visit to Fort Worth. Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Link were over from Rule. Mrs. C.C. Sauls returned to her home in Jonesboro this morning, after a visit to S.H. Sauls and family. J.C. Dennis of Abilene, who is going to teach a writing school at this place. The Baptist Ladies Aid Society will give a Chicken Pie Dinner next Saturday on the vacant lot between Mistrot’s and Sammons & Shipp’s will begin serving at 11:30 a.m. This afternoon W.F. Burnell, a stone mason, was hurt by a bank caving in on him in the excavation made for the foundation of the new water tower. He was placing in the stone work when the bank caved covering him nearly completed up. His shoulder was dislocated and he was brought to the City Hotel.
