Mr. and Mrs. G.L. Davenport left this morning for Ranger. C.H. Callicoatte of Paris, texas, came last evening on a visit to his brother, J.A. and to look at the country. C.S. Davidson is here today from Anson. J.a. Terry’s little boy 4 years of age, fell last night and broke his collar bone. Jones died at her residence in Stamford this morning after a lingering illness lasting for several months. Mrs. Jones was the wife of Rev. C.L. Jones and has been living in Stamford nearly since the start of the town. She was the mother of quite a large family and was considerably advanced in age. The burial will be this evening in Stamford Cemetery. Miss Prebble Hickman died at the residence of her parents this morning. Miss Hickman has been confined to bed for a long time with typhoid fever. Her parents came from Abilene several months ago. She was a beautiful and attractive young lady. The burial will be in the Stamford cemetery. Last evening while Mr. Tom Singley was at his house lost his little son, 3 years of age, was kicked by one of the horses. Mrs. Singley has been seriously ill for a long time with slow fever, and she is very little better at present. We met L.T. Key in town. Mr. Key came from Florence, Ala. He has owned land in this country for a number of years and has now moved to it and make this country his home. Mrs. R.W. Sides died this morning at 8 o’clock at her residence, south of town. She has been in a bad state of health for a long time and for some time in the past there has been no hopes. Sides moved to Stamford from Ala., and her health declining before has grown rapidly worse till the end came. The burial services will be at the residence tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock and interment will be in the Stamford Cemetery. Mrs. E.C. Driskell of Hico is visiting Mrs. E.T. Rosamond. An amendment to the ordinance regulating the building and the erection or placing of buildings within the fire limits of the City of Stamford. Hereafter all buildings erected within the fire limits of the City of Stamford, Jones County, Texas, shall be of brick, stone or concrete, except sidewalks in any building more than one story above the ground, where recesses in the wall are necessary to obtain ventilation or buildings on the rear of any lot for storage purposes. The railroad reached Haskell, August 2 at high noon. Miss Mrytie Carpenter of Farmersville is visiting at the home of Rev. and Mrs. U.C. Howard. Miss Carpenter is a great favorite of this family, having formerly been a parishoner of Mr. Howard. Rev. A. White and Mr. Powell of Wise county are in Stamford today attending a meeting of the Farmers Union. These gentlemen are State organizers for the Farmers Union. Morrison, C.H. Steel were elected delegates to the State Convention. John W. Scott and W.R. Chapman were elected delegates to the court of civil appeals. T.J. Barrett and J.P. Sides is seriously ill and there is very little hope entertained of her recovery. She has been sick for some time. Rev. and Mrs. Sides came out to this country about a year ago from Alabama and built an elegant residence a short distance south of town. The husband and relatives have the sympathy of all. Mrs. Tom Tucker died last evening and was buried in the Stamford Cemetery this morning at 10 o’clock. She has been afflicted for a long time with consumption. She left a husband and four children to mourn the loss. We have for sale 1500 acres of Clear Fork Valley land, 5 miles east of White Flat. Mr. Frank Nellis of Anson was in town on business. J.P. Shaw and wife left this morning to visit friends in Bell county, where they will remain two weeks. The Albany Telephone company are putting in taller poles through the business part of the town. Mrs. J.E. Raines and little daughter Thelma Marie, of Albany are visiting this week Mrs. W.B. Bizzell on Oliver Street. R.M. Dickenson is putting a stock of groceries in the stand where Riter’s Racket Store was formerly situated. The workmen are nearing completion of the repairs on the Methodist Church. Anson All-Sorts Editor W.G. Thomas and W.N. Townley went to Hamlin. Judge Monrie is jsut back from Mineral Wells. Dr. D. Williams and wife are at Mineral Wells. Mackie Myers has gone to the Wells for his health. C.H. Steele went to McCaulley yesterday on business. W.R. Chapman went to Hamlin and bought 10 lots. Dr. G.M. Callaway and Knox Pittard went to Merkel. J.L. Lantrip has moved in to his residence giving possession of the Hotel to Mr. J.L. Hamilton to whom he sold. Prof. Jess M. pattern of Bell County is running a Singing Normal in the Presbyterian church. Mrs. J.L. Lantrip will leave next week for a month visit to Walnut Springs. J.E. Robinson had gone to Dallas and Kansas City to buy goods for the Anson Furniture Company. Spurgeon Barkley has bought J.M. Wilsons interest in the Wilson & Wilson Furniture Co. Miss Leonora Robinson has gone to Mexia on a visit. A.M. Hightower and lady leave tomorrow for Canyon and Edom, in Van Zandt Co. to visit. The tent meeting being run by Rev. Price Billingsley is being largely attended. Several have been baptized. Bro. Pirtle will protract his meeting at the Methodist church next Sunday. Evans conducted the burial services. Avoca Items Rev. R.S. Garrard pastor of the Baptist church is conducting a protracted meeting here this week. Rev. Edmonds and Pippiss are doing the preaching. Dr. J.A. Ward received a phone message Monday from Austin, telling of the death by drowning of the 13 year old son of Rev. L.B. Gray. It will be remembered that Bro. Gray held a protracted meeting here about 2 weeks ago. The accident happened one week from the day he started home. Mrs. G.E. Matthews left on Monday’s train to visit her sister at Sherman. Joe Hounsel and Miss Effie Hall were married at the residence of the brides parents last Sunday evening. Jno. W. Culwell of Weatherford is looking after his interest here this week. He is with the firm of Slover Cullwell & Co. G.W. Argenbright left the first of the week for Henderson county. T.I. Hall left Tuesday for Big Springs to attend the West Texas log rolling association. Mrs. H.A. Thomas, state manager for the Woodmen Circle has been re-organization the grove here and putting it in working order. The Avoca Mercantile Co. are unpacking their goods and getting ready for business. W.R. Taylor and John Meil went down to Waco. Prof. Hicks began work Wednesday on his new residence on the Humphrey addition. Dr. Williams and wife of Merkel are visiting at J.C. Williams this week. Mr. and Mrs. J.A. McMurry of Valley Mills, came in to visit Mrs. J.L. Blankenbeckler. Mrs. L.E. Lockhart of Welaka, I.T. came in yesterday to visit her sister, Mrs. C. Ligon of this city. J.S. Moore and daughter of Oakwood came on the train. J.M. Bradley and W.L. Barnes of Lorena called at the News. W. Downey and family and Frank Riddel of Valley Mills came in last night to visit C.C. Riddel of Abbie. Mrs. J.W. Harrell came in from visiting relatives in Ala.
