Mr. Nidever was an old citizen of Anson and had many friends here. His wife having died here a few years ago. They leave several children the oldest of which is married. Rev. Pirtle and young are running a protracted meeting at the Methodist church. Rev. Edmonds has just closed a meeting at Funston, we saw him baptize 13 adults. Rev. Billingsley’s meeting south of town two miles, that was in progress, having baptized some 15 or 30. McKie Myers came home from Mineral Wells. Miss Garrett of Wills Point has returned to her post with Geo. H. Baker Co. Miss Ena Steele has returned from an extensive vist to East Texas, and I.T. Miss Bessie Martin of Stamford accompanied her on her return. Mrs. Wagoner and daughter Mrs. Una Roberts were here Monday visiting Mrs. Geo. Reeves another daughter of Mrs. Wagoner. Prof. T.E. Evans, Superintendent of the Abilene Schools were visiting in Anson. Miss Maggie Adamson of Mexia is visiting. Claud Russel and Oscar Morris have returned from visits to Van Zandt county. A.M. Hightower and lady returned from Edom. Capt. T.A. White went to stamford after mrs. White who had been attending to the bedside of Mrs. Jim White. Miss Myrtle Trembleof Merkel is visiting Miss Pearl Maxwell. Rev. Chism of the Christian church will begin a meeting at Nugent next week. Miss Georgia Knudson who has been visiting her sister, mrs. J. R. Sledge, left this morning for her home at Comanche. Master Chas. Sledge went with her. We met Elmer Whittington at the concert at the Inn last night. He told us that he returned to Stamford to stay. We met Miss Alice Keeling in town. Miss Alice has been traveling in the interest of Baylor Female College and will enter school the first of Sept. I am still teaching music at home just east of Public School - Miss Pauline McAlpin. Rev. William Piercy, Cumberland Presbyterian minister from Rising Star in company with Judge Fisher called at the News. Mr. Piercy will preach in the Baptist church. John McClain who has been visiting R.B. Baker lst this morning for ihs home in Corsicana. Local and Personal S.R. Wilder says he will soon begin the construction of a rock business house on the corner of Wetherbee and Hamilton streets the northwest corner of block 30. N. Leavitt has been sick. E.H. Clark, who carries the mail on Rural Route 1, brough us yesterday a full opened cotton boll from the J.W. Gaddy’s place. Lawson’s new brick hotel is going up rapidly The building will be three stories and 41 rooms. Mrs. Pattie White and Mrs. McGee both of McKenzie, Tenn. are visiting Mrs. W.C. Blanchett. Mrs. White is contemplating a move. Mr. F.C. Smith of San Francisco has been in town prospecting and has bought extensively. He bought the Jemeyson farm on the double Mountain river consisting of 800 acres. I will begin my kindergarten work September 3 in my school building. -- Mrs. C. Rose The Aspermont mail route from Stamford discontinues today. The Aspermont mail will now go out from Hamlin. The lot east of Mistrot Bros. & Co. was sold this week for $2500. Elder W.J. Jones of Waco, is a visitor in the city today. Rev. Jones has been a preacher in the Christian church for over 40 years. Born to Mr. and Mrs. J.F. McCullough a fine girl Tuesday August 21. Ed. S. Hines, wife and child were in Stamford today on their way to visit Mr. Hines father at Funston. Dr. W.R. Tyler, who has been in the dentist business returned to his home at Blooming Grove. The new water main is being put down. The old main where it’s weak, is being taken up and new main put in its place. D.M. Hart Contractor and Builder Stamford, Texas J.J. Pruda, Jr. has been sick. Rue and Sagerton Mr. Adolph Tom has added a new house to his business. Mr. A.F. Smith has passed over the dark waters of death. Mr. Smith was one of Sagerton’s best citizens. An excellent citizen, the church a faithful member and the family a loving father and husband.
