Miss Myrtis was taken dangerously ill Friday night, although she had been sick for sometime before with walking typhoid fever. The funeral will take place at the residence of D.S. Cullum tomorrow morning at 9:30. The burial will be tomorrow at about 10 o’clock in the Stamford Cemetery. Mrs. Moore Murdock’s Address Delivered at the Reunion Mr. Chairman, Comrades of the Second Regiment U.C.V., Daughters and Sons of the Confederacy, Ladies and Gentlemen: My grandfather came to Texas in 1835. He fought in the battle of San Antonio of that year, was wounded in the charge of the second day. In 1837, brought his family to Texas to make a home with its pioneer, he died here in 1839 of the wounds received at San Antonio. We have been here and generation has succeeded generation ever since, and it is my hope that our clan will be here many generations yet to come. My father was of the Moore’s of the Carolinas, and enlisting for the war with Mexico in 1847, when 17 years of age. He followed the Haqlls of the Montezumas. He came to texas in 1849 and married my mother in the early 50s. He raised a company of his expenses in 1861, was commissioned captain in 1862 and entertained the confederate service. It is our boast that we sent troops from our family to the field, from Virginia, the two Carolinas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Mississippi and Texas. Mr. Biggers has located in the newspaper business in Rotan before there is any town. Rev. J.M. Dawson, editor of the Western Evangel at Abilene is inthe city on business connected with the paper. The brick has been ordered for the paving of Swenson along the property front of Yates, J.O. Moore, D.C. Moore, and N. Leavitt. Slover, Culwell & Co. Avoca, Texas Bain and Indiana Wagons and Success Sulkies C.E. Sammons sold coffins in Stamford. Dr. E.O. Brewington Resident Dentist Office over Citizens National Bank From Tuesday’s Daily Rev. Mr. Johnson of Cisco conducted the religious services at the burial of Miss Myrtis Cullum today. A number of box cars and a tender has been wrecked in the railroad yards on the Central in the south part of town. Dr. L.B. Roebuck and wife of Sweetwater arrived to attend the funeral of Miss Myrtis Cullum today. Pink Watts and family of Knox City has removed to Stamford where they will live. Judge G.W. Dakan returned this morning from Mart, Texas, where he had been to greet the arrival of a fine boy. From Wednesday’s Daily Capt. A.J. Ceter of Albany, an old friend of Mr. and Mrs. Cullum was here on the sad occasion of the burial of Miss Myrtis. Mrs. S.A. Rutledge has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. W.T.Grubbs, left for her home at Godley, Texas. Mrs. J.M. Chism of Albany came for Miss Myrtis Cullum’s funeral. A colored child was born last night at the colored cabin in the rear of Mrs. Hannie’s and in a few hours after birth the child died. There is no colored burying ground in town and Marshal Flournoy has been put to it today to know what to do as the city will have to pay for the burial. It will likely be buried over near the oil mill. Again the death angel has visited our community and taken another dear mother, Mrs. Naomi E. Williamson, last Wednesday, Oct. 10. Mrs. Williamson has been in bad health for several years. Mrs. Williamson moved to Abbie from Dublin, Texas, about 5 years ago with her husband, who died just 1 year and 12 days previous to her death. She leaves to mourn her four girls and two boys: Mrs. Tom Snelson of Jud, Mrs. Ethel Shipman, Miss Aletha Williamson, Jessie and Donnie Williamson, all of Abbie. She with her husband, has been a member of the Baptist church for a number of years, in which she has lived and died a faithful Christian. The death angel has visited the home of I.R. Bradburry and taken his darling babe, Oct. 11. This bud was young and sweet but it goes to claim its home with the angelic host.
