Shelton, assistant past master; T.F. Ragsdale, Clerk and Jefferson Dayzemore, clerk. The board of trustees of the Collegiate Institute met Tuesday night. The meeting was called for the purpose of meeting Mr. W.H. Symonds, the architect, who had arrived from new York, and of deciding on definite plans for the main building. The building will have a frontage of 125 feet and a depth of 105. There will be two full stories with basement and a third story comprising several rooms. The style will be castillated capping with a front elevation in the center. The preference of material was stone, fi the same can be had at reasonable figures. The heating and lighting and the sewage was discussed at length and it was ordered that hte building be wired for electric lights. Rev. R.B. Evans was elected unanimously to the position of special agent. Avoca Items Sept. 26, 1906 Through the efforts of our postmaster Avoca people are now getting the benefit of mail service on the nightly train. This enables us to receive the bulk of our mail 12 hours earlier. Brother West will hold services in the new Methodist church and will organize a church membership. W. Sitton of Nacogdoches has moved to this country and will live on A.J. Sitton’s place, one mile north of town. Owen Crosthwait has finished his new residence in the south part of town. It will be occupied for the present by S.e. Black. J.D. Johnson is building a new residence opposite the school building. Mrs. W.B. Penick and daughter Miss Lias, Mrs. R.V. Colbert and children, Mrs. F.L. Grayum left on the train for Snyder. Mrs. Grayum was here to attend the burial of her father. In a conservation this morning with Mr. A.W. Springer, he says that before leaving Aspermont yesterday morning a telephone message had been received from T.C. Hoy, who lives northwest from Aspermont, saying that boring for water at his place at the depth of 135 feet, oil in considerable quantity had been struck. On October 1, 1906, the town of Westbrook will be formerly opened and the Texas & Pacific Railway will sell round trip tickets. The Swedish Wonders held the boards at the Opera House. D.M. Hart is pushing the work on the Stamford Cotton Warehouse. The building will be 80x150 feet. S.B. Elliott, architect of Sherman has received the contract for the construction of the Stamford Steam Laundry. Chas. Thornton has been visiting his uncle, C.E. Binning and returned home to Alexander, Miss. Mr. B.E. Sparks & Son sold the old Loop place the consideration amounting to something like $20,000. From Monday’s Daily R.M. Dickerson is removing his residence from his lot and is preparing to erect a handsome cottage. J.B. Hitt and wife were called to Burleson to attend the funeral of Mrs. Hitt’s father. D.E. Parden, a former liveryman of Stamford but now of the Panhandle was visiting. Miss Eva Harrell has been visiting her sister, Mrs. R.H. Honea and left for home at Mt. Pleasant, La. The family of C.W. Blocker of Gainesville with the Pattillo Hardware company, arrived last week and will occupy the Walter Brewington residence. D.M. Hart has the contract for the woodwork of the Astin building. Miss Jennie Kincannon is again with the Stamford Dry Goods Co. Clerical force additions: Baker-Bryant Co., Mr. P.H. Leonard of Houston; Mr. S.L. Fleming, goes into the grocery department; Miss Ethel Moore of this city has accepted a cashier position. W.G. Dillon of Trenton is a new man on the mechanical force of the News.
