Mr. Swan was for many years the sheriff of Jones county. Mr. and Mrs. Rogers were blessed with a visit from a little stranger - a fine baby boy - on Tuesday morning. Robert P’Pool of Rochester was in town this week. For nearly a year the Walsh Acetylene Gas Machine has been in use in Stamford and every machine has given entire satisfaction. J.T. Halsel has one in his residence; Jack Dial has one in his barber shop; W.L. Wright has one in his livery, Wright & Halsel; Dr. J. P. Sledge is using the machine. Work on the excavation for the college building is progressing nicely. We were out there last evening and found a force with teams and scrappers and the basement was down more than a foot. Prof. S.W. McKinney of Abilene, is visiting his cousin, Mr. L. A. Sadler. Hon E.F. Brown and wife of Sherman are visiting Mrs. W.E. Matthes and Mrs. T.A. Williams their daughter. From Wednesday’s Daily Miss Jennie Meredith is teaching music at Avoca. At the Methodist church, the choir is under the direction of Mr. James A. Greer. Dr. Sledge is building a 2 story building. Prof. S.D. Simons, formerly of Dallas is now connected with the R.B. Hilton Music Company. W.L. Wilson, editor and proprietor of the Cisco Apert. Mr. R. Bushel, proprietor of the Stamford Brick works will have his works in operation this week. Misses Laura and Vera Wheeler who have been visiting their sister, Mrs. Zora Roquemore, have returned to their home at Stephenville. Mr. J.H. Rucker has just moved to Aspermont, Texas, from the Indian Territory. He brings the good news that his friend, R.C. Dutton of Pauncauna, I.T. expects to move here and start a cotton gin. Brown returned to their homes in Cleburne. S.B. Coleman and brother, Rev. T.H. Coleman of Danville, Ky., came to visit their sister, Mrs. H.A. Martin. Mr. M.J. Cox (Mary Jane) editor of the Moody Courier came on today’s train. Mr. Cox was formally editor of the Abilene Reporter.
