Mr. Grogan, who is a well man of large experience, says he thinks there is little doubt but plenty of good water will be found at a depth of 400 feet. --McCaulley Tribune. Father Caperton Dead Milton Thompson Caperton Born April 26, 1811, in Kentucky. Raised in Tenn., till 1851, thence moved to Texas. Died April 7 at 9:50 a.m., age 95 years, 11 months, 11 days. Married 1833 to Miss Amanda Scrivner. Four children, 3 boys and 1 girl R.S. Caperton is the only child alive. Rev. Caperton was converted at 19 years of age, and united with Primitive Baptist church, then joined Missionary Baptist church. He Began preaching in 1850, at age of 39, preached 56 years. He Preached first sermon in Texas Xmas day 1851. He Ceased pastoral work at 91. Rev. Caperton Preached his last sermon in North Park church in Abilene in 1902, age 91. Owing to his extreme old age and enfeebled physical condition, Father Caperton didn’t make a wide range of acquaintances during his sojourn in Stamford, but many will remember the old gentleman who attended the protracted meetings last summer, and who always sat close-up to the pulpit that he might catch something of the sermon notwithstanding his impaired hearing. Bro. Caperton had a long and important connection with the history and development of Texas. Bro. Groner preached the funeral sermon in the Church Monday, Bros. Howard, Evans and Piercy spoke of the rich and ripe Christian character of Father Caperton. The body was laid to rest in the Stamford cemetery. The son and family have sincere sympathy. Callicoatte & Bourn are still in the blacksmith and wood work at the same old stand. H.A. Cadenhead of Dublin has moved to Stamford. Mr. R.P. Moore, the courteous manager of D. Egger & Son’s store in Haskell, has married one of Haskell’s fairest daughters, and on Thursday night, the 4th inst., was duly united in marital bonds to Miss Bertha Irby. Rev. J.H. Chambliss officiating. The wedding took place at the residence of the bride’s parents. The bride is the daughter of one of our best families, Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Irby. -- Haskell Free Press Friday night, at 8:30 o’clock at the home of the bride in this city Mr. Wilbur Wright of Stamford, and Miss Dora Thompson of Hico were united in marriage, the ceremony being performed by Rev. J.E. Stephens in the presence of a few friends and relatives. The groom is a passenger conductor on the Texas Central running between Stamford and Rotan. -- Hico Review Joseph Glenn and Miss Janie Isam married Sunday, April 7, at 3:30 p.m. Rev. F.S. Groner officiating. The Swenson Gin will close Saturday, April 20th. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Guinn a fine girl, April 4, 1907. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Gib Re____, fine boy, April 6, 1907. From Avoca, April 4, 1907 J.W. Starkey is sick. The contractors have begun work on The Avoca State Bank building. This will be a handsome brick structure. H.E. Grimes, manager of the lumber yard is visiting relatives in Hill County. Work on the Culwell building was delayed, but they have several cars of brick. L.A. Copeland is building a residence on his lots in the Taylor addition. J.C. Williams and J.H. Huffaker were elected school trustees. A gentleman from Brownwood was in town this week selling lots in Pyote, the new town in Ward County on the T.P. Monday evening about dark the fire alarm was given it was found that the trash and boxes on the east side of the Mistrot building were again on fire. This time the fire was on the side of the wooden building. Jerome Duncan is offering his house for sale on the corner of Moran and Anson streets. $2,500. Local and Personal J.F. Schaake was in Stamford, he lives 10 miles east of town. Born: Mr. and Mrs. L.J. Valentine, boy, Tuesday morning, April 9, 1907. J.H. Brown of Avoca was in town. W.K. Shipman, brother of J.K., who lives at Sweetwater, was in Stamford. R.L. Overstreet and sons, Grover, Willie and John Johnson were in town Saturday. Mr. A.B. Crow of Avoca was in town. Local and Personal born: to Mr. and Mrs. Clarence ____, Monday night, fine boy. Old brother F. Whitaker of Avoca was in town.
