Bosher, Miss Girtie Cooler, Tinnin Curry, Mrs. Maud Duvall, Mrs. Nannie Davis, Jas. W. Elliott, L.N. Holt, W.A. Jarrell and wife, R.F. Kruse, Madie Laughlin, Miss Addie Meeks, Master Roger C. Maxwell, C.C. McGlathery, Phil Nolan, Mrs. Jim Parramore, Jr., W.G. Ruble, Mrs. J.D. Reed, L.N. Stephens, J.H. Vaughn, Blumer Wilson, Ollie Williams, W.M. Willis, Albert Williams. William Thomas Singleton died at his home in Avoca, April 16, 1907, and was buried in the Spring Creek cemetery April 17. He was a member of the Baptist church and also of the W.O.W. Rev. Leland Malone, the pastor of the Baptist church at Avoca, preached the funeral sermon and the burial was by the beautiful and impressive ritual of the W.O.W. order. The Avoca Camp asked the presence of the Stamford Camp and Chancellor Commander J.H. Whittington and may of the officers and members attended. Dr. Roebuck was Marshal and the funeral procession from the church to the grave was nearly a mile in length, composed of 52 carriages. Mr. Singleton had recently moved to Avoca from Central Texas and the large attendance at his burial attested the high estimation in which he was held by the people. He was born January 7, 1857 and left a wife and three children, one boy and two girls. First National Bank has a capitol stock of $100,000 with a surplus of $50,000. Mr. R.V. Colbert is now president and J.C. Bryant, Cashier with Walter Orr, Assistant. Local and Personal Mr. and Mrs. Joel Smith of Rule will move to Lueders where Mr. Smith will be the cashier of the Bank of Lueders. Glasses furnished by Dr. Roberts of the Stamford Medical Institute. Mr. Nathan Leavitt was elected Honorary members of the board of trustees of the Stamford Collegiate Institute. Major bland from Anson was in Stamford. Rev. Robert Brown, pastor of the Albany Methodist church was in town. Prof. Cecil Evans and wife were in Stamford. Mrs. Evans is the daughter of Mrs. Maxwell of Stamford. Prof. Evans is superintendent of Abilene High School. Cisterns and storm houses built to order. - L.A. Johnson The child of Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Hill died Saturday morning and was buried Sunday in the Stamford cemetery. Thank you to the people of Stamford for kindness in the sickness and death of our baby. - Mr. and Mrs. S. Lundquist Dr. B.S. McCurdy of Cleburne has moved to Stamford and will engage in the medical practice. A telegram was received Wednesday evening from Mr. W.O. Wetherbee at Dallas stating that Mrs. Wetherbee who was accompanying him to Texas had just died in that city and that he would at once return to New York with the remains. Mrs. Wetherbee was expected to remain in Stamford for sometime. Work has stopped on the Public school building on account of the absence of the contractor. The material that was shipped for the building, we learn has been sold to individuals in the town.
