Local and Personal Miss Henrietta Shrader and brother Fritz of Sagerton left for Brenham today. Mrs. A. Maxwell spent Saturday with her daughter near Haskell. Mr. McKaskle fell from the Harlan & Goodwin building. Miss Jessie Smith of Colorado City and Miss Annie Walling of Hillsboro came to town to visit relatives. Miss Maggie Langford was elected delegate to the League Encampment Sunday evening. Miss Beulah Bunkley of Farmersville came in to visit her brother, Dr. Bunkley. Mrs. J.T. Owen and little daughter Graciebel of Houston are visiting her father. Rob Ragsdale and wife arrived to visit his parents, R.S. Ragsdale. A. Maxwell of our city and brother Jim Maxwell of Anson went to Granbury to visit their sister. Get your bread at Dickenson’s. Mrs. Hugh Elrod and little daughter Paul Vane who have been visiting Mrs. Elrod’s mother, Mrs. J.C. Haskew returned home to Timmonsville, SC. Mrs. R.L. Phillips came in from a visit to her brother Mr. Crawford of Gatesville. Members of the Swastika 42 Club were guests of Mrs. Victor Anderson. Ms. Bennings will be the next hostess. Paxton-Hayden On Tuesday evening at 1 o’clock Mr. Ben[Benjamin] C. Paxton, one of the proprietors of the Imperial Barber Shop at this place, was united in marriage to Miss Vira Hayden, daughter of J.B. Hayden, at the residence of the bride’s parents in Abilene. Rev. L.R. Scarborough officiating. The bride and groom arrived in Anson on the 3:30 A & N train, Tuesday evening. [Ben Paxton was son of James Paxton – Harriett Chenoweth – James is buried in Anson] Waters-Williams Gast-Waters Tuesday evening about 9 o’clock the Presbyterian manse was aroused from a state of quiet business along other pastoral lines. Two young couples appeared on the scene, pleading the rights of matrimony, and after a few minutes in which to recover from the shock of this wholesale deal in matrimony, Mr. H.H. Waters and Miss Ruby Williams were united in matrimony; also Mr. A.H. Gast and Miss Ola Waters, Rev. W.K. Johnston officiating. Miss Humphrey and Miss Otis Robins were witnesses. Ewell - Williams The editor met the 9:40 south-bound train Tuesday morning, and there saw a young and suspecting looking couple alight and start toward town. They were on their way to the county clerk’s office, called for license for Mr. Frank Ewell and Miss Clara Williams and then commanded Judge Jas. P. Planted with Dynamite Haskell, Texas, July 20 - Henry Free was in town today selling a lot of fine plumbs - about as fine fruit of the kind as we ever saw - grown in his orchard a few miles northeast of town. In speaking of his orchard Mr. Free said he set out his trees four years ago by a peculiar method. A singing teacher who was in his neighborhood about that time told him that they had found in the Indian Territory that trees planted in holes that had been blown out with dynamite grew most successfully. Fairview Notes Brother Young is a fine preacher. Mr. J.L. Wohlford just closed a successful singing. Mr. Reeves is teaching singing school at Baptist church. Mr. Charley Procter made a business trip to Stamford where he will move this fall to put the children in school.
