Rev. U.C. Howard of the First Presbyterian church was the officiating minister. I wish to thank the many friends of Paint Creek for their kindness during the illness and death of wife and daughter. W.B. Sheffield. Miss Mary Webb of Newman is attending college here. Miss Effie Vardeman of Rochester is among the College students. Mrs. Pattie C. Wright of Newman was in town for the college opening. J.E. Pritchett and wife of Ft. Worth came in Monday. Mr. Pritchett will take a ministerial course in the College. At 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon Mr. Will Cireley and Miss Mamie Louise Owens drove to the residence of Rev. Jerome Duncan and were united in marriage by him. Newspaper in Munday was the Munday Times. Avoca Happenings It took a long time to drive 4-5 miles out on the Stamford road. The party consisted of Misses Cox, Kate Crosthwaite, Emma, Myrtle and Etta Roebuck, Norma Harris and Hannah Caton, Messrs. Bill Johnson, Tom Kennedy, Soren Hansen, Walter Ward, Claud Cox, A.F. Carter, Mat Caton and P.O. Sandlin. Among those attending the college opening were: J.S. Culwell and wife, Miss Minnie Johnson, Mrs. George Slover, Rev. C.D. West and wife, J.H. Huffaker and family. Miss Emma Roebuck of Frost, Texas, is visiting her uncle, Dr. Roebuck and family. L.W. Narcross, piano tuner and builder of many years experience, now is in the employ of Ross & Heyer Co. of Ft. Worth, is here in Stamford for a limited time. The death angel made another visit to our town this week, taking this time Mrs. Clementine Martin, beloved wife of our townsman, Mr. S.A. Martin. Mrs. Martin died Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. The funeral occurred at the Methodist Church with interment at the City Cemetery. She was a member of the Methodist church at this place. Mrs. Martin was the daughter of Mr. Whittington, a well known resident of our town and was married to Mrs. S.A. Martin about three years ago. One little boy of about 2 years, blessed their home. Liberty Happenings L.E. Ryburn was in the city of Stamford. Elbert Lovern and Miss Maggie Busby went to Avoca. Ernest Paddie left for Fannin Co. Alfred Beatty and O.C. Mathis will leave for Galveston. Otis Starkey went over to Swain’s Chapel. Mr. Nash and family of Spring Creek visited relatives in Anson. -- Uncle Ned Sinclair Items N.S. Smith our postmaster, has gone to Missouri to visit friends and relatives and to buy for his store. Irvin Westmorland has returned from Eastland. Miss Ella Smith will leave for Waco to attend Baylor University. Jim Jeffrey went to Abilene for appendicitis surgery. Jesse Green returned from a trip to Rosenberg. Miss Ava Haynes returned from a trip to Big Springs. Little Alba Westmorland was severely scalded two weeks ago. Miss Winnie Haynes is attending school in Anson and her brother Palmer works in the Morrow and Johnson bank in Anson.
