G.M. Hill of the News Force was in Anson to visit his family. T.L. Blanton, attorney from Anson was in town. Grover Foshee arrived last night from Alabama. He is an old acquaintance of Dr. Harlan and expects to stay in this country. Mr. G.R. Hurlock and John C. Rice of West were here is week prospecting. Mr. Rice is a brother-in-law of Mr. S. Wagley of this city, and Mr. Hurlock is an old schoolmate of Mr. Wagley’s. T.A. Harris will move to Tahoka this week. Sherman, Texas, Dec.9 A telegram received by T.E. Bailey of Sherman Printing Company this morning announced the sudden death of his father, Rev. E.A. Bailey, at Dublin, Erath County, last evening. Mr. Bailey left at once for Dublin this morning. The deceased has been itinerant minister of the Southern Methodist church for more than 50 of his 72 years, and most of that time was in the effective list of the Northwest Texas annual conference, and for the last 21 years had been in the council of the bishop as one of the presiding elders. Two years ago, at his own request, he superannuated. His health has been normally good, and his sudden death was due to an unlooked for heart trouble. Rev. Mr. Bailey had just secured a very valuable land concession from the Mexican government and had been quite active in the movement to form and locate a colony there. He visited his son at Sherman about three weeks ago. He was on a visit to his son, W.G. Bailey, at Dublin, when the end came. His wife was on a visit to their daughter, the wife of State Senator John Veale, at Amarillo. Mr. Will Welty and Miss Effie Williams were married at the home of the bride’s parents Sunday. Mr. Welty is a prominent business man of Lueders and Miss Effie is the charming daughter of Rev. and Mrs. G.N. Williams. -- Lueders Vanguard Saturday afternoon at the residence of Rev. Jerome Duncan, Mr. J.A. Moore of Nogales, Arizona, and Miss Fisher Bruce of this place were quietly unified in marriage, Rev. Duncan performing the ceremony. They left for their future home in Nogales, Arizona. Mr. Moore is a prosperous young businessman of Nogales. The bride is the popular daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.H. Bruce of this city. Mr. Campbell will not continue the publication of a daily, but will publish a weekly paper instead. Bond Issue On next Monday and Tuesday, the 16th and 17th, the question of issuance of bonds for permanent street improvement and the improvement of the City Hall will be submitted to the property owners of Stamford. Meeting of Stamford Floral Society Some 15 or 20 of the leading women of Stamford were in attendance and Mrs. P.P. Berthelot, Pres., presided. The secretary, Mrs. R.L. Penick read the minutes. Mesdames Pattillo and Taylor and Miss Rosamond will take up with the Council the matter of passing an ordinance prohibiting the scattering of waste paper on the streets and sidewalks. Mesdames Penick,, Woods and Bunkley will interview merchants and request them to plant shade trees on the City Hall Square next to their places of business and agree to care for them. Wilkenson Drug Co. Mr. E.B. Wilkenson has sold an interest in his drug business to Dr. G.D. Blackwell and his son E.H. Wilkenson. The new firm will be known as Wilkenson Drug Company. The Messrs. Wilkenson’s are too well known to need any commendation by us, to know them in any walk of life is but to trust and put confidence in them. Dr. Blackwell comes from Atlanta, Ga., and in his native city and state he numbers his friends by the thousands, having been quite prominent in social, fraternal and political affairs. He received his medical education in the Medical College and Hospitals of Atlanta, Ga., and New York. He ranks among the leading surgeons in the south and is a Specialist on disease of the throat and lungs. Dr. Blackwell will have offices in Drug Store.
