The Swenson Lake and Park has been greatly improved and is now an ideal amusement place. The donors have made some improvements. They and the Stamford people will make more. The dam has been planted in Bermuda grass on the south side, and the north side will soon be planted. This will add to the appearance and security. The water pipes which are laid the full length of the dam will be used for watering the grass until it gets a hold. Stamford Should Build Westward An Electric Railroad from Stamford Through Roby to Dawson would bring more trade to Stamford than a Standard Steam Railway and cost half the money over level country. Allen, superintendent for 2 years, Miss Jodie McGee, first assistant in the High School, Misses Maud Winn, Mabel Elliott, Ola Steele, Ida Crow, May Floyd, May Pickerell, and Mrs. Mollie Lumpass. - Anson Talk President Duncan Hurt in Wreck Switch Engine Ran Into Passenger He Was on Near Pine Bluff While enroute home from Atlanta, where he attended the Southern Methodist Conference, President Jerome Duncan of the Stamford Collegiate Institute was slightly injured. J.D. Smith, Jr., the 18 month old son of J.D. Smith, a well-known farmer who lives six miles from Stamford on the Anson road, died Monday evening of congestion of the bowels. Interment was in the New Hope cemetery Tuesday evening. Saturday morning at her home, nine miles northwest of here, Mrs. A.V. Miller died, after a short illness of dysentery. Mrs. Miller was the wife of Mr. J.W. Miller, a prosperous farmer of this county. She was 54 years of age and had a large number of friends. J.C. Raines, the dry goods merchant was called to Bowie to his mother’s bedside. She died Monday morning, however. Local and Personal Traveling salesman Meyer of the Stein-Block Clothing Co., was here and sold a large order of clothes to J.A. Lambden & Co. P.P. Fitzpatrick had his right leg amputated Tuesday. Mr. O’Rouke, one of the contractors on the new Union depot was in town. Wells, Robert Wisson Local and Personal Miss Nelson, who has been teaching in Kent County, has returned home. A.E. Jaeggli has returned from Austin where he had an operation on his ear. J.P. P’Pool and R.I. Green were ordained as elders. Miss Jennie Kincannon, who has been with the Stamford Dry Goods Co., returned to her home in Bruceville. F. Martdendale, farmer lives, 15 miles east of town. G.W. Hamblett of Hamlin will return home to Stamford. G.W. Thomas of Anson was with the News job and will leave for a job out west. Bizzell, The two boys to the right are Robert Harrison and Claud Yates. Society News The Ladies Aid of the Southern Presbyterian church met with Mrs. McKinney. Mr. and Mrs. R.M. Hammock and Hugh, left Wednesday morning to make their future home in Sweetwater. Mr. Hammock has been pastor of the Southern Presbyterian church for the past five months. Miss Neva Power and Mrs. Mac Cox, two of Stamford’s best will be married Wednesday morning at 7:30. Mr. and Mrs. Cox will reside in San Marcos. Mr. G.H. Webb and Miss Lena Day were married at Haskell Sunday.
