Cottages burned: J.Choat, J.T. Brown occupied by Mrs. Duval; T.T. Brady occupied by Sam Brim. Restoration of Good Times Predicted by Mr. E.P. Swenson, the New York Banker, Here Looking After Investments Which Mean Much for Stamford Mr. E.P. Swenson, one of the banking firm of S.M. Swenson & Sons, New York, arrived in Stamford Friday night and spent several days. He was particularly impressed with the growth of the College and the success of the movement to build a new $25,000 Baptist church. Mr. Swenson left Thursday morning with Col. Hastings, Stamford manager, and Mr. A.J. Swenson, and Mr. Chas. A. Jones, Espuela manager for Swenson & Sons, for the Spur ranch in Dickens county, looking over the 130,000 acres to be plotted into small farms and sold to farmers. J. Mac Cox and Miss Neva Power were united in marriage Tuesday night at 7 o’clock at the residence of H.S. Abbot. Rev. F.S. Groner officiating. Mr. Cox has been connected with the Yates Drug Store while Miss Power had until about a week ago, been with Lambdin & Co. They will make their home in San Marcos. Rev. I.C. Kiker of Haskell, was married at Dublin Wednesday evening by Rev. R.B. Evans to Miss Maude M. Harber. Mr. and Mrs. Kiker will make their future home in Haskell. Sunday morning about 9:30 o’clock, Justice of the Peace G.W. Dakan quietly married Miss Bessie Flint and Mr. D.F. Lynch at the City hall. The bride is the daughter of Mr. D.L. Flint of Stamford, which the groom is a well-known young ranchman of Sagerton. Tuesday, after an illness of a few days, Little Jennie Lee Haskew, died of dysentery. She was the two-year-old daughter of J.L. Haskew, the well-known transfer man. Little Jennie was laid to rest Wednesday morning in the city cemetery, the services being conducted by Rev. R.E. Goodrich. Sealed bids will be received on an addition to the City Hall of Stamford June 15, 1908. The first annual commencement of the Stamford Collegiate Institute opens Wednesday morning at 9 o’clock. J.F. Freight Depot to north line of town section; Wetherbee Street from McLendon street; Ferguson Street from Union Depot; Anson Street from Wichita Valley Railroad right of way; Webb St. from McHarg Avenue; all north of Davenport Street; Davenport Street from McMillan to East Line of Section; Campbell, Oliver, and Moran Streets from McMillan Street to east line of town section; McHarg Avenue from present T.C. Depot to east line of Section; Hamilton and Rotan Streets; from Swenson Avenue to east line of section; McLendon and Reynolds Streets, from Texas Central right of way to east line of section. Proposition from the City Sewerage Co. to sell their plant to the city was discussed. Wire Civil Engineer Warren of Austin to come at once, Mr. Warren will survey the city. Prohibiting and punishing any person riding on sidewalks with bicycle and skating thereon, or any portion of sidewalk between curb and property line. All sidewalks shall be 12 feet wide and all brick and cement sidewalks be placed two feet from property lines. An electric line was ordered placed at corner of McHarg and Ferguson streets. Citizens will be answered in reference to the election of City Recorder. Local and Personal Miss Mabel Elliott, who has been teaching in Anson, returned home. Mr. C.E. Love, salesman for J.A. Lambden, up for sickness. Grover Bennett has been attending the Denton Normal. Mr. Harvey Waltom, former manager for the Mistrot store here, will be glad to hear of his approaching married to Miss Alice Pinkney Johnston of Stephenville. They will make their home in Vernon. C.E. Bunkley, who has been connected with the Stamford Drug Co., has accepted a position with the Central West Drug Co. as pharmacist. R.I. Williams of Karney succeeds Mr. Bunkley. The Wilkinson drug stock on North Swenson was this week sold to T.A. Robinson and A.E. Pool who will enlarge the stock and corporate under the name of “Central West Drug Co.” Badgett Loses Hand in Mill Accident at Dickenson’s Cafe Causes Employee to Lose Hand Monday afternoon about three o’clock, while grinding sausage in a mill at Dickenson’s Cafe, Walter Badgett crushed his left hand, and had it amputated. Mr. Badgett, was grinding sausage at the time. Mr. Badgett has been working for the past two years. J.E. Sadler & Son have moved their stock of groceries into the building formerly occupied by the Spencer & Abbott Lumber Co., just south of the First National Bank..
