RANSONE, DIES STAMFORD, Jan. 20 R.W. Ransone, 94, last confederate veteran of Jones county died Thursday at his home. Funeral plans under the direction of Barrow funeral home, are awaiting word from a grandson, Cpl. Robert Lloyd in Florida. Mr. Ransone was remarkably active until about a month ago when he became too weak for his daily walks downtown. He would have celebrated his 95th birthday 2 April 1944. He always looked forward to attending the confederate reunions and attended the last in 1942. He also celebrated the 75th Anniversary of the Gettysburg battle at Gettysburg, PA., when the old soldiers of the blue and the gray met. He was a great favorite of Stamford children who many years ago started holding a birthday party for him. It started so long ago that some of the children who originated the plan have been sending their children to the annual party. The veteran was born 2 April 1849 in Calhoun, GA. He served in the civil war in his father's company, Smith's regiment, Howell's division of the Sixth Georgia milita, as a lad of 15. It was during the closing days of the war when the company was composed of old men and young boys. Both the father and osn were captured but later escaped. Mr. Ransone has been living in Stamford since 1907. His son, Julius A. Ransone and his wife have been here with him since last spring. A grandaughter, Mrs. G.W. Jones of Dallas, a grandson, Cpl. Robert Lloyd of Florida; 2 great-grandchildren; brother - George Ransone of Atlanta, GA; sister: Mrs. Mary Fain of Calhoun, GA also survive.
