Newsom, 71, of Winters, died Sunday morning, July 16, 2006, at his residence. He was born April 6, 1935 in Chillicothe, Texas and grew up around Paducah and Lovington, New Mexico. Services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2006 in the Winters Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Chamness officiating. Graveside services were at 5 p.m. in Resthaven Cemetery in Lovington, N.M. under the direction of the Winters Funeral Home. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He settled in Stamford, Texas and was an Automobile Salesman. He moved to Winters in 1985. He married Pat Smith Koch on May 7, 2000 in Robert Lee, Texas. While in Winters he owned a used car lot and brokered deer hunting leases. He was a Methodist and an avid sportsman. Survivors are his wife, Pat Koch Newsom, of Winters; two sons, John Paul Newsom and wife, Renee, of Katy; and Ronnie Newsom of Albuquerque, N.M.; one daughter, Paula Brown of Plano; three step daughters, Tammy McCrory and husband, Mike, of Allen, Elaine Andress and husband, Lee, of Abilene, and Heidi Huntsman of Winters; six grandchildren, Jesse and Rachel Newsom, Robert and Branki McCrory, Shayla Hagger, and Kaitlin Brown; and several great grandchildren.
