Buchanan, 69, retired captain of the Fort Worth Fire department and former member of the Breckenridge and Stamford fire departments died of a heart attack at 11:30 p.m. Saturday in Fort Worth. Mr. Buchanan became a member of the Fort Worth department in April, 1905, as a substitute. He became a regular member and in 1910 was promoted to lieutenant. In 1918 he was made captain and retired in 1926. Several years later he became a member of the Breckenridge department for 3 years and the Stamford department for 3 years, when he was forced to retire because of injuries. A bachelor, Mr. Buchanan is survived by a niece, Mrs. A.B. Crabb and a nephew, R.B. Jameson, whom he rescued from a fire more than 30 years ago. James is a member of the fire department.
