Hunter, 93, Confederate army veteran, died of flu and pneumonia at the Confederate Home in Austin 5 February 1937. He was the father of Mr. Ray Rector and Mrs. C.L. Rogers of Stamford and O.S. Hunter of Tuxedo. He formerly lived in Stamford for many years. He entered the Confederate Home in 1925. Mrs. Rector, Mrs. Rogers and their brothers, O.S. Hunter of Tuxedo and W.M. Hunter of Spur went to Austin accompanied by Mrs. W.P. Moore of Stamford. Funeral service held at the Confederate Home Chapel by Rev. Mobly and burial was in the state cemetery at Austin. Mr. Hunter was born in Newberry, SC, 11 January 1847. During the War between the States he enlisted in Company F, 4th South Carolina Infantry, Goodwin's Brigade, C.S.A. He came to Texas in 1882 and lived for many years in Seymour. He was a member of the Stamford Confederate Camp after he moved to Stamford. Survivors: his two sons, two daughters, 11 grand, 1 great.
