All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************** Mrs. B.A. McKenzie Mrs. B.A. McKenzie, 27, of Abilene was drowned Sunday, 23 August 1936, near Lueders when the boat in which she and Mrs. Harley Wilkerson, 22, and their husbands were riding capsized. The party had been enjoying an all day outing on the Clear Fork of the Brazos. The accident occurred just north of the M-K-T railroad bridge on Lake Penick. Willetta, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. McKenzie, had been taken for a boat ride and returned to the bank where she was watching when the tragedy occurred. Mrs. McKenzie's body was recovered in 12 foot water. An inhalator was brought from the Abilene Fire department but efforts to revive her proved futile. The body was conveyed to the home of Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Spray, parents of Mrs. McKenzie, at Peacock. Burial was in the Double Mountain cemetery. Survivors: her parents, her husband, small daughter; 3 sisters - Mrs. Emma Freeman, Mrs. Carlene Webb and Miss Carmel Spray, all of whom live in the Peacock vicinity; 4 brothers - Sam Spray of Las Vegas, NM, Clyde, Claude and Lloyd Spray of Peacock.
