All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ******************************************************************************** SENSATIONAL KILLING OCCURS AT STAMFORD PHYSICIAN SHOOTS YOUNG TRAVELING MAN TO DEATH AT STAMFORD INN Stamford, Texas, June 20 - A mysterious killing occurred in the wash room of the Stamford Inn in Stamford this morning. Robert L. Onell, a traveling salesman for the St. Louis branch of the National Lead Company who had just arrived in town over the Texas Central was followed into the wash room by Dr. J.M. Alexander, of Abilene, who had arrived here in an automobile and who sat quietly in the machine reading a newspaper until Onell's arrival. Alexander fired several shots killing Onell instantly. Alexander than walked to the manager of the Inn to whom he gave up his pistol. He made bond immediately, appearing calm and laughing and chatting with those about him. The cause of the shooting is unknown. CHAUFFEUR ARRESTED and placed in Jail as Witness in Case of Abilene Physician Charged with murder. Abilene, Texas - June 21 Haskell Russell, chauffeur of Dr. J.M. Alexander, was arrested this morning as a witness in the Onell killing and taken to Anson for the examining trial. It is alleged Russell was on the train from Cisco to Stamford, traveling with Onell, and it is known he was not making this trip in the interest of Dr. Alexander. Russell came to Abilene after the shooting. Dr. J.S. Alexander, father of Dr. Jim Alexander, arrested following the death of Onell at Stamford Tuesday, and Dr. Mac Alexander, his brother passed through Weatherford Tuesday on their way to Mineral Wells. Mrs. Jim Alexander and child, he head nurse of the Alexander sanitarium of Abilene is now in Mineral Wells and has been there for several days. ONELL MARRIED MAN Reported Prominently Connected in Milwaukee, Wisconsin Dallas, Texas, June 20 Robert L. Onell, the traveling man reported killed in Stamford this morning by Dr. J.M. Alexander of Abilene, was a young married man, and his ife is now in Milwaukee. Deceased is reported connected with a prominent Milwaukee family.
