Stewart, pastor of the Shamrock First Methodist church, formerly a presiding elder and pastor in Stamford, who died Wednesday, 21 April 1937, will be held in Spur, Saturday, 24 April 1937. Dr. Stewart suffered a stroke of paralysis early Wednesday while walking from the parsonage in Shamrock to the church building to conduct a funeral. Dr. and Mrs. Stewart and their son, Frederick and daughter, Virginia, lived in Stamford for five years. Dr. Stewart served as pastor of St. John's Methodist church for four years, from 1925 to 1929, and returned to Stamford as presiding elder of the Stamford district the following year. The family had many personal friends in Stamford. The son, Frederick, is a law student in Southwestern University at Georgetown and the daughter, who is now Mrs. Marion B. Thomas, lives at Anderson. Dr. Stewart was reared in Tennessee, and received his college education in Randolph-Mason College, Virginia, and Vanderbilt university. He entered the Northwest Texas conference in 1908, serving first at Spur. He remained there until 1913, and in successive years pastor at Snyder, Canyon, Miami, First Church at Sweetwater, Presiding elder of the Sweetwater district, pastor of St. John's church, Stamford; presiding elder of the Stamford district; presiding elder at Vernon, presiding elder at Abilene, pastor at Wellington for one year, after which he was transferred to Shamrock.
