Swan, 88, who formerly lived in Jones county for more than 30 years, died on 22 April 1937 at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Frank Powell in Clovis, NM, where he had been making his home since 1931. Funeral services were held at Clovis, NM, and Mrs. W.D. Olinger of near Sagerton, Mrs. Ed Gray of Stamford, Mrs. Ben Lauderdale and her daughter of Breckenridge went to the funeral. Mrs. Olinger and Mrs. Lauderdale are daughters. Mr. Swan, for whom Swan Chapel community was named. Mrs. Ed Gray, Mrs. Harry Dickenson and Shirley Mae Swan of Stamford are granddaughters and Swan Olinger of Stamford is a grandson. Nine children, 27 grand and 5 great survive. A brother, Wes Swan of Tahoka, former sheriff of Jones county, also survives. Mr. Swan was born in Tennessee 29 December 1848. He was married to Miss Artelia Daniels in 1868 and after her death in 1890 he remarried several years later. The second wife, also known to many people of this section, died in 1931. Mr. Swan moved from Jones County to Wheeler, Texas in 1918, after living here for more than 30 years. Source: The Stamford American Stamford, Texas April 30, 1937
