May 1948 (All articles are typed as printed) SOCIETY NEWS Misses Joyce Thigpen, Patsy Massey and Mrs. William Butler complimented Miss Ada Bea Baker, bride elect of the week with a tea and March 6th, 1948 at the home of Mrs. Leo Krochell Thigpen. Mrs. Butler greeted the guests upon their arrival and those in the receiving line were Miss Thigpen, Mss Baker, and her mother, Mrs. Collie B. Baker and Mrs. Walter Schroeder, mother of the bridegroom elect. Miss Massey presided over the register. Lovely arrangements of white and pink caranations, white stock and acacia decorated the living room, while white stock and pink gladioli were used in the gift rooms which were in charge of Mesdames Earl Stimson, Thomas B. Baker, Misses Eva Lios Bain and Peggy Slaughter. The tea table was laid with a lovely lace cloth and had as its centerpiece, a heart-shaped bouquet of pink carnations bordered with a frill of pink tulle and flanked by tall white candles. White carnations and stock decked the buffet. Alternating at serving the cake were Mesdames Wiley Jimmerson and Thomas B. Baker, and pouring coffee and tea were Misses Agnes Overby and Peggy Gideon. Assistin in the dining room were Mesdames E.F. Kolinek, Joe Luark, and L.K. Thigpen. Ninety-five guests called during the tea hours. FRIENDSHIP LUNCHEON The Twentieth Century Study Club entertained with its annual Friendship Day luncheon and Texas program Wednesday in the pation of the Goff Hotel. The long table was decked with lovely arrangements of dainty peach blossoms in pasted pottery bowls and these same blossoms were used at other point of vantage about the pation. Mrs. A.D. Martinez, first president of the club gave the invocation and after the delicious chicken luncheion, Mrs. O.A. Mudd, president, welcomed the guests and explained that “Friendship Day” commemorates the birthday of the late Mary Eleanor Brackenridge of San Antonio, early philanthropist, educator and club woman; after which the club members introduced their guests an answered roll call with with a friendship quotation. Mrs. Evan Bains made a most capable leader for the Texas program and after an appropriate introduction gave several charming “Legends of the Bluebonnet,” Mrs. Clyde Young also told an interesting folk lore tale of “The First Cactus Bloom” by J. Frank Dobie, following which Mrs. E.D. Holchak, accompanied by her sister, Mrs. Bryan butler at the piano, sang “Under a Texas Moon.” The program closed with an appropriate peon on “Friendship: by the leader. Seay, Floyd McKinzie, and Miss Ella Schroeder. Mrs. E.D. Holchak will entertain the club March 17 th at 3 P.M. EL OS? NEWS by Mrs. H. Sahm Mr. and Mrs. R.H. Ball of Jamesport, Missouri and Mr. and Mrs. Ellory Elbert and family were dinner guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. Sahm Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. B.L. Haverlah spent Sunday in Pleasanton with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. B. McGoldrick and Mrs. Odes Gilley called on Mr. and Mrs. OLan Weston and sons. Mrs. Albert Esse and daughters, Mr. William Esse and Mrs. Hilbert Sahm were in Cuero, Wednesday. Mrs. George Retzloff spent a week with Mrs. Freddie Jauer and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. T.N. Cannon attended the F.F.A. Fat Stock Show in Stockdale, Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gensberg and Miss alta Mae Benke visited their mother, Mrs. Laura Benke over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. G.N. Lynch spent the weekend in Monterrey, Mexico. Miss Dorothy Ann Zaeske spent Friday night with charleen Paasch. Mr. and Mrs. August Weiding and family visited relative in Ray Point, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Hilbert Sahm and daughters called on Mr. and Mrs. Hilmar Rohde Sunday afternoon. Cont’d. Mr. and Mrs. Olan Weston and sons and Mrs. William Esse were in Beeville, Monday. PAWNEE NEWS By Ethel Benham The Women’s Society of Christian Service met in the home of Mrs. A.L. Benham on Wednesday afternnon for the belated February meeting. Mrs. W.H. Welkener was leader for the afternoon. An interesting program was presented after which refreshments were served to nine members and a social hour followed. Mrs. E.H. Peterson, Mrs. Mary Ryan, Mrs. S.E. Hoff and Mrs. Church in Three Rivers Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Jesse Phillips, William Welkener, Billy Welkener, Roger Over-, A.L. Benham attended the fourth quarterly conference of the Methodist by, Alden Lickman and Bobby Blumquist attended the basketball tournament in Austin on Saturday. The Dee Davidsons visited with Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Hair over the weekend. Alvin Ray O’Neil of corpus Christi visited over the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.L. O’Neil. Mr. and Mrs. August Weiss and little daughters of Corpus Christi visited with Mr. and Mrs. E. Peterson over the weekend. Mrs. Ellen Wills and Clayton spent the weekend in San Antonio visiting relatives. Kay Moody spent the weekend in Orangedale with Mrs. Moody. Kay is staying at the home of Mrs. Mary Ryan and going to school since, to our regret, Mrs. Moody saw fit to move to Orangedale. Mr. and Mrs. S.E. Hoff, Mrs. J.L. Looney and Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Hoff were in San Antonio Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Olson and sons went to Coy City of Sunday afternoon to attend the open house reception of Mr. and Mrs. D.J. Scott. BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENTS Mr. and Mrs. Teddy LeBleu of Fredricksburg are the proud parents of a son born February 20th and weighing 9 lbs. 14 oz. The young lad was named Stephen Milam. He is the grandson of Mrs. Thelma Shaw of Kenedy. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Swenson happily announce the arrival of their first born, a son, who weighes sic pounds nine ounces at birth in the Kenedy Clinic and Hospital. The young lad was named Gerald Arthur Swenson. Frank LeBleu announces the arrival of a granddaughter, Sandra Arlene, on February 28 and weighed 8 lbs. 7 oz. Sandra is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Newell of Santa Ann, California. WEDDING ANNOUNCEMENT Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Rutledge of Pettus announce the approaching marriage of their daughter Alma to Mr. Don R. Finley of the Callihan Ranch, Laredo and Ensinal, Texas.
