The broiler show, featuring 22 entries, will be at 4 p.m., followed by the goat show at 5 p.m. Shirley Janssen, president of the youth show, said there are 19 breeding goats and 140 market goats entered in the event. She explained that the numbers of animals this year are about the same as in past years, noting that the number of broilers and halter steers, 44, are up from last year. "I think everything's going to be all right," Janssen said of the show. "We're watching the weather, and we might actually have some decent weather this year. Last year it rained, and it was cold. Fifty, 60 degrees, we can handle that. But when it's 30 and 40 degrees, that makes for some cold mornings and cold nights." On Friday the youth show will continue with commercial steer judging at 8 a.m. An awards presentation for the 19 commercial steers entered in the show will be at 3:45 p.m. The judging of homemaking entries, including clothing, handicraft items and food, will be at 9:30 a.m.; the lamb show, with 18 entries, will be at 10 a.m.; and the breeding cattle show and the halter steer show will follow at noon. The hog show, featuring 188 market hogs, will round out Friday's activities at 4 p.m. Saturday's events will include a livestock judging contest at 9 a.m., and the sale of handicraft and non-champion baked food items from 9 a.m. to noon. The homemaking awards will be presented at 3:30 p.m., and at 5 p.m. the Friends of the Karnes County Youth Show's auction will take place.
