He was a 2000 graduate of Karnes City High School and a December 2004 graduate of Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in animal science. He was a postgraduate student at the university and a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He was recognized as a distinguished student, and was an employee of the Large Animal Veterinary School at Texas A&M. Rhodes Funeral Home, Karnes City, 830-780-3334. Edwin W. Yanta - RUNGE RUNGE - Edwin W. Yanta, 82, of Runge, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005. He was born Jan. 10, 1923, in Runge, to the late John A. Yanta and Mary Pollok Yanta. He was a Lt. Col., retired USAF veteran and reservist, serving in World War II. He was a graduate of Texas A&M earning a bachelor's degree in Animal Husbandry. He was a recruiting liaison for the USAF Academy, and was awarded many medals and commendations. He taught veterans Vocational Agriculture, and was employed by Conquista as an environmental engineer for the land reclamation programs. He was an active member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Runge, the Parish Council, the Cemetery Assn., was a member of the Holy Name Society, Runge VFW, Airforce Liberandos, A&M Century Club, the Karnes-Goliad Soil and Water Conservation District, past trustee of the Runge School Board, and the founding president of the Karnes County Farm Bureau, serving ten years on the board. Survivors: daughter, Tanya Lykes of Victoria; sons, Dr. Mylos Yanta of Alton, Ill., Virgil Yanta of Boerne, and Zachary Yanta of Runge; sister, Valeria Ebeier of San Antonio; brothers, The Most Rev.
