She was born Sept. 26, 1935, in Karnes City, to the late George W. and Burnes Alberta Mann Haven. She was a biochemist at Brooks Air Force Base and a microbiologist at UCLA. She was a teacher in Los Angeles for 20 years and retired in 1994. She was a member of Prospect Baptist Church, 1948 graduate of Karnes County High School in Kenedy, 1950 Summa Cum Laude graduate of St. Phillips College, 1952 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Texas Southern University of Houston, attended St. Mary's University, and was the first black student to receive a master's degree at Incarnate Word College. Preceded in death by: sisters, Peggy Haven Mathis and Jo Ann Haven Moore; brothers, Charles Walter Haven and George Alonzo Haven. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel. He was born Feb. 5, 1921, in Kurten, to the late Elijah and Berta Edge Lindsey. He started a dairy farm in Ecleto and was a retired chemistry teacher from Karnes City High School. He graduated from Bryan High School, was a 1942 graduate of Texas A&M, a member of the 12th Man Club of Texas A&M, former member of the Texas A&M student association, and a member of First Baptist Church of Karnes City. Survivors: wife, Dorothy Sheffield Lindsey; sons, Robert Craig Lindsey of Spring Branch, and William Michael Lindsey of Houston; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
