Ballard Appears on the Company of Rangers commanded by Capt. William Becknell mustered into service of the late Republic of Texas on the 18th day of April 1836 and discharged in 1838. Said Company served three months as appears by reference to the Discharge Roll now on file in this office. And I further certify that I Have Power of Attorney on file in this office that Mr. Enoch Tinnesley is fully authorized to draw and receipt for all land and money due the said B.M. Ballard has, under the provisions of an Act of the Legislature of the State of Texas, entitled "AN ACT TO EXTEND THE PROVISIONS OF AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR ASCERTAINING THE DEBT OF THE LATE REPUBLIC OF TEXAS' , approved February 7, 1853, filed with the Auditor and Comptroller a "Claim for Service in Capt. Becknell's Company of Rangers in 1836 & 1838 amounting to "Seventy-five dollars": which is sufficiently authenticated to authorize the auditing of the same under the laws of the the late REPUBLIC OF TEXAS. The said claim according to the data before us is worth seventy-five dollars in Par Funds, as having been at that rate so available to the Government. signed in Austin the twenty-ninth day of August 1853. ********************************************************************* No. 4121 (same as above) for "A Claim for service in Capt. Ballard, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical B.M. Ballard who was a soldier in Capt. Becknell's Company of the Reserve Volunteers, Texas Troupes that he enlisted on the __day of __1836 for the term of 3 months and was discharged at "I was sent back from Nacogdoches by General Houston to appoint Precincts and secure the votes of the Red River District for first Legislature in 1836, taking as assistants M.W. Mathews and James Box and made due return of same in 17 days to H.S.I. in city of Houston. " signed B. M. BALLARD subscribed and sworn to before me this 10th day of November 1870. James P. Gross, Commissioner on the General Land Office hereby certify that the records of this office show that B. M. Ballard served faithfully and honorably in the ARMY OF TEXAS for term of three months commencing on the 28th day of April 1836, that he was honorably discharged from said service and that he received for the same a Bounty Warrant of 320 acres which is now on file in the office together with a Survey Patent executed by virtue of the same.
