Denton, 63, of Kaufman, Texas, whose skull was fractured in an automobile accident near Rayville Monroe, remained critical Tuesday at the Riverside sanitarium. Grave fears were held for his recovery. The accident occurred on the highway between Delhi and Rayville. The Denton family were enroute to their home in Texas from Nashville, Tenn., and the car in which they were riding collided head-on with a car bearing a Tennessee license. Names of occupants of this car were not learned. All members of the Denton party sustained injuries, but W.J. Denton's injuries only were serious. An ambulance brought the four members of the party to the local hospital. The Monroe (LA) News-Star Wednesday, December 3, 1930 Page 7, Column 7 TEXAN HURT IN CAR ACCIDENT SUCCUMBS HERE TUESDAY NITE Fighting death for two days in a local sanitarium, W.J. Denton, 63, of Kaufman, Texas, succumbed Tuesday night from injuries received in an automobile accident Monday morning. The mishap occurred between Rayville and Delhi as Denton, his wife and Mr. and Mrs. Leo Denton were motoring from Nashville, Tenn., to their Texas home. An examination at the Riverside sanitarium shortly after an ambulance arrived from the scene of [the] accident with Denton, revealed that the injured man's skull had been fractured in a head-on crash with an unidentified driver whose automobile bore a Tennessee license. Denton is survived by his wife, five daughters and four sons, all of Texas. The body was sent by train Wednesday to Kaufman, where funeral services and interment will take place Thursday, it was announced here Tuesday night. Additional Comments: According to the 1930 Kaufman County Census, Will J. and his wife Belle were both from Tennessee. They were probably visiting relatives and were coming back when they had their accident. Will and Belle are both buried in the Kaufman Cemetery.
