                          MEETS DEATH WHILE AT WORK

  Word was received in our little city Tuesday that Rufus Alsup had been fatally injured
while at work on the Schreiner Paint Creek ranch in Edwards County, of which injury he
died a few hours later while en route to Junction for medical attention.
  Hobson Parker is in custody of the officers, but at this time no charges have been filed,
but the Grand Jury now in session, it is thought, are investigating the matter.
  No particulars are obtainable beyond the fact that these two young men were at work on a
fence line near the residence of Mr. W. H. Cavaness.
  Others were working along this same fence, but if they saw or heard anything have not
talked for publication, that we have heard.
  Both of these young men are well known in this county and have many friends who feel
sorrowful over the sad occurrence.

                              AN UNTIMELY DEATH

  About noon on the 8th of February, Rufus Alsup, son of Mr. A. Alsup of South Llano, met 
his death at the hand of another, while at work on the Schreiner Paint Creek ranch, the
particulars of which the writer knows nothing.
  Rufus was considered a good energetic boy.  He was born in Edwards county, May 21st 1900.
He obeyed the gospel the 12th of last September and was an interested member of the church
of Christ up to his death.
  Quite a number of people attended the funeral service at the Wooten Cemetery, which took
place at 10:00 a.m. on the 9th inst. which was conducted by the writer assisted by Bro.
Oscar Brannon and the Rev. C. A. Woods pastor of the Methodist church.
  Natural life is short at best and it is deplorable when one is deprived of it by an
unnatural cause.  The family have the sympathy of their bereavement.  They requested me to 
offer for them heart-felt thanks for their assistance and ever to be remembered interest
in their behalf.
