Bible History, Received from Henry Rance Lee, 27 July 2005. Name of Author-Date and Location still unknown for sure. This document was with the Lee Family Bible, provided by Grand Daughter of Ella (Lee) Eaglebarger- Dorothy Lee (Eaglebarger) Bering. After reading this more carefully it appears one of Ella's daughters wrote this. Where did the name, Thomas & Wooten come from, first knowledge of it's possibility came from the 1870 census - Ella is listed as (T.E.W.) could that stand for "Thomas Ella Wooten Lee" ? EFW; PAGE 1. As far as I know, mamma (formely, Miss Ella Thomas Wooten Lee) has had the Lt. Col. Peter Alexander Lee (our grandfather your great gf) family bible, ever since Grandmother, Mrs. P.A. Lee, formerly Miss Ann Mariah Frashure, passed away. The Bible is in many pieces and in a bad state, much of it is missing, however the front cover is stamped in gold "Peter A. Lee". Inside front cover is the following in handwriting of Ann Mariah Lee- "Ann M. Lee, her hand, and pen-Look at this and think of me and Love this Book" "Ann M. Lee" "Peter A. Lee" The birth & death records are fairly complete. We have always been told by mamma & dad that g.d. Lt. Co. Peter Alexander Lee was a first cousin of the famous Gen. Robert E. Lee and this is borne out in the death notice of Ann M. which is copied herewith. Records follow. PAGE 2. Since Henry Lee 1756-1818 (Light Horse Harry) was the father of Gen. Rot. E. Lee and Peter A. is said to be a first cousin of Rot. E. then, one of Henry's brothers would have to be the father of P.A. Lee (grandfather) but, I have searched books at the library and can't find any mention of a Peter Alexander Lee among children of these brothers of Light Horse Harry Lee. So I begin to wonder if the Kin is something other than cousins. The only Lee I found with a Peter or Alexander prefacing was an Edward Alexander lee, which was no use to me. In the books I find mention of Lees being lost track of or records of them being lost-perhaps P.A. Lee is one of these. Three or Four years ago my brother W. F. (Bill) Eaglebarger, on his way to New York City, stopped in Richmond and was told much of the Lee records were burned in the Richmond fire. So he didn't uncover anything. PAGE 3. More about Peter A & Ann Mariah Lee: They came to Paris from Richmond, VA. Lived on Lee Street (street was named for them) in east Paris, he was a doctor also a store owner. Having owned the property on South side of Plaza where Crook-Record and Perkins Store was. Mamma told me her mother (Ann M. Lee) in a state of shock and grief at the death of P.A. Lee, burned many valuable papers including deeds to the homestead and the Crook-Records property, where upon dishonest persons took over the properties, then the Paris Fire wiped out the records of all this, having the swindlers in complete control of aforementioned properties. I know where grandmother Lee is buried but, we don't know where grandfather is buried except in one of the old cemeteries in the city, no tombstones that I know of. ---
