In the published list of soldiers' names, he is listed as Thomas Miller. The application papers from the NARA files are in my possession. DECLARATION FOR PENSION, Kern Co, CA, Mar 20th, 1907 Hezekiah T. (Thomas) MILLER, 81 years of age, resident of Kern Co, CA. Enrolled at San Antonio, TX on the 1st day of March 1846 as a private in Gillettes Company Vols. for service in the Mexican War, and was discharged at San Antonio in November 1846. At enlistment, he was 5' 10 1/2" and had a light complexion, blue eyes and light hair. He was a farmer and born January 22, 1826 in Madison Co, AL. An earlier application pension was made, also in Kern Co., CA, 12th Sept 1901. On May 3, 1898, Hezekiah MILLER stated that he was once a married man but now was "Devorsed". He had married 28 March 1848 in Paris, TX, Sarah Jane BROWN from TN. One son living, James Epps MILLER, born Marh 1, 1851 in Lamar Co, TX. It appears from the papers that the first application for a pension was made in the 1880s. The pension was stopped after 4 June 1909 because of H.T. Miller's death. Explanation: Hezekiah T. Miller was the son of Richard G. MILLER and Rebecca BAYLES/BAYLESS, and a brother to my ancestor, Louisa Caron (Miller) DAVIS.
