Bankhead, long time resident of Paris, died at his home, 126 Pine Bluff street, at the age of 86 years, after a long period of ill health. Funeral services were conducted at his late residence, by Rev. P.F. Herndon; burial in the Evergreen Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, formerly Miss Susan Alcinda Miller, three sons, Jack, Chas. and Vernon Bankhead, and a daughter, Mrs. Owen O'Neill. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Nan Huddle of Holly Springs, Mississppi; and two brothers, Will Bankhead of Bonham and Robert Bankhead of Munday. He was born Dec. 8, 1845, at Holly Springs, Mississippi. In 1862, he joined the Confederate army, serving with Rucker's brigade, 18th Miss. Militia, later joining Capt. Mitchell's Independents. After a year's service with the latter he was transferred to Gen. Forrest's command in Russell's brigade and took part in many of the major engagements of the conflict. As a member of the Confederate Veterans' Camp he attended all gatherings of this body. Coming to Texas he was married on August 13, 1874, and ten years later he and his family moved to Paris. He was engaged in farming and other business enterprises. (Daily News-Telegram)
