J. BIARD, Retired Gas Company Official, Dies A. J. Biard, 65, of 1810 West Alabama, who retired January 1 as assistant secretary-treasurer of the Texas Distribution Division of United Gas Corporation, died late Friday in St. Joseph’s Hospital. He had been ill only a few days. A native of Paris, Lamar County, he attended public schools in Blossom and Paris before starting to work as a clerk in the United Gas sales division. He came to Houston as traveling auditor for United Gas in 1931 and was transferred two years later to the Beaumont division as office manager. In 1937 he returned to Houston where he held a similar position. Eight years ago he was promoted to the post he held until his retirement. Mr. Biard was president of the Beaumont Lions Club in 1937. Two years later he became president of the Central Lions Club of Houston and in 1941 he was appointed district governor of the Lions. He was also charter president of the Houston Chapter, National Office Management Association; president of the Building Owners and Management Association in 1945 and co-chairman in 1950 and 1951 of the industrial division of the Harris County Chapter, American Red Cross. Mr. Biard was a member of the board of directors of the Harris County Association for the Blind. He was a Mason and a member of the Christian Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Odra Biard and a son, Houston Clay Biard of Detroit, Michigan; three grandsons and a sister, Mrs. Katherine Gardner of Alice. Also nieces Mrs. A. J. Burke, Houston, Mrs. J. H. Leach, Laredo, Mrs. Walter Barrett, Abilene, Mrs. W. W. Wilson, Alice; nephews, Robert Gardner, Rosenburg, J. L. Gardner, Beeville, Frank Gardner, Houston, John Biard, Los Angeles, CA, Ruffin Biard, Dallas Settegast-Kopt will arrange the funeral.
