All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ***************************************************** From the files of June Tuck MAXEY, MATILDA DENTON, MRS. - (Paris, Texas, May 18th)-Widow of the late General Sam Bell Maxey, former United States senator from Texas, died today at her home in this city (Paris) in her 76th year. She was born in Clinton county, Kentucky; married Captain Maxey soon after his return from the Mexican war, and in 1857 moved with him to Paris, where she had resided since. She was an active member of the Baptist Church and a generous contributor to charity; one of her most favored being the Buckner Orphans' Home at Dallas. She is survived by four brothers, a sister, and her adopted son. Gen. Maxey died in 1895. (S.S. Gazette, Fri., May 22, 1908)
