John Bradford HUGHES was the son of Moses HUGHES and Hannah BERRY. He was born circa 1840 in Texas as evidenced by the 1850 Census of Milam County, Texas where his age was reported as 10. **********************Begin Actual Transcription********************** The State of Texas County of Lampasas Know all men by these presents that I John B. HUGHES of the County of Lampasas and the State of Texas have this day nominated constituted and appointed L. D. NICHOLS of Lampasas Texas my true and lawful agent and attorney for me and in my name and stead to ask for demand receive and receipt for all money due me from the State of Texas for services tendered the said state as Second Corporal in Lieutenant Moses HUGHES County Minute Men mustered into service of the State of Texas on the Twenty first day of March AD 1860 and mustered out of said service on the Twenty fourth day of June AD 1860 hereby giving and granting to my said attorney full Power and authority to act in and about the premises as much so as if I myself was personally present and acting. Acknowledging all acts of him my said attorney, Lawfully done in the premises as fully, binding on me, as though I myself was personally present and acting Given under my hand this 13th day of June AD 1861 Attest John Bradford HUGHES (Page Two) The State of Texas County of Lampasas Before me the undersigned Authority personally appeared John B.
