Henderson Passed Away Tuesday Evening J. D. Henderson, who had been a resident of this section for sixty years and of Lampasas since 1920, died at his home in the east part of town Tuesday evening, September 18, at 7:33 o'clock. He had been in poor health for several years and during the past year he had been confined to his home and bed several times. His last sicness lasted for ten days and it was known from the time he was taken that he could get well. His children had all been with him for several days awaiting the time of his going and doing all they could to help in the last hours of his life. Funeral services were conducted at the Church of Christ Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock by Elder Robert Howell, and the body was laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery. The following were pall bearers: H. H. Bell, Frank Tittle, Fred Peeler, M. W. Crider, Willie Yazell, J. E. Word. Mr. Henderson was a native of Indiana, just across the line from Kentucky. Following the death of his father [corrected to read "mother"] when just a child he lived with his grandmother in Kentucky, coming to Texas with her and his uncle at the age of about seven, and to Burnet county at about the age of 12 years. Since that time he had lived on the place which he owned at his death in the Bachelor Peak community till he came to Lampasas in 1920. He was engaged in farming all his life till 1921 when he and his wife became operators of the Rural telephone office and remained with that work for 9 1-2 years, retiring about two years ago. October 5, 1894 Mr. Henderson married Miss Annie Hoten [corrected to read "Roten"] of Burnet county and to this union were bron [should be "born"] 8 children. Mrs. Henderson and seven of these children survive his passing. The children are: Mrs. Vida East, Mrs. Lucy Rutledge and Wylie Henderson of Austin, Mrs. Velma Nobles of Hico, J. D. Henderson Jr. of Evant, Mrs. Lola Cox of Bernet, Mrs. Ophia Barnes of Houston. There are also 18 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. One nephew who lives in Oklahoma is the only surviving relative besides the immediate family. Mr. Henderson was a good man, always taking his stand on the right side, so far as he knew it, of every moral issue. People who have known him all his life and others who have known him all their lives speak of him as one of our very best citizens. He had been a faithful member of the Church of Christ for the past forty years and lived true to his convictions." ----------------------------------------
