He was born July 3, 1884, the son of Peter Christian & Mary Jane (nee Bridges) Jensen. He was the fourth of their five children. Charlie was a born story-teller, and it is said he would pull up a chair on the old square in Lexington where a crowd would soon be gathered for some simple entertainment. He also loved to dip his snuff, which he did until his death. Charlie wed Carrie Bell Phears/Clemons on January 3, 1904, and they went on to have six children: Myrtle Gertrude, Maudie Edith, Madie Bell, Hervie Clarence (Hub), Clara Lucille (Sit), and Charles Marvin (Pete). Charlie died in a Giddings nursing home April 16, 1976 at the age of 91.
